About this audiobook
SOON TO BE A HULU TELEVISION SERIES STARRING LINDSAY LOHAN AND SHAILENE WOODLEY
“The very definition of a page-turner! This smart, original, twisty story had me gripped from the first to the last page.” —Liane Moriarty, New York Times bestselling author of Big Little Lies
A read-in-one-night suspense thriller narrated by a compulsive liar whose little white lies allow her to enter into the life and comfort of a wealthy married couple who are harboring much darker secrets themselves. For the millions of us still chasing those gone girls, this is perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Lucy Foley, and Laura Dave.
Sloane Caraway is a liar.
Harmless lies, mostly, to make her self-proclaimed sad, little life a bit more interesting.
So, when Sloane sees a young girl in tears at a park one afternoon, she can’t help herself—she tells the girl’s (very attractive) dad she’s a nurse and helps him pull a bee stinger from the girl’s foot.
With this lie, and chance encounter, Sloane becomes the nanny for the wealthy and privileged Jay and Violet Lockhart—the perfect New York couple, with a brownstone, a daughter in private school, and summers on Block Island.
But maybe Sloane isn’t the only one lying, and all that’s picture-perfect harbors a much more dangerous truth. To say anything more is to spoil the most exciting, twisty, and bitingly smart suspense novel to come out in years.
The thing about lies is that they add up, form their own truth and a twisted prison of a world. And in Count My Lies, Sophie Stava spins an “utterly gripping and unputdownable” (Amy Tintera, New York Times bestselling author) thriller about the secrets we keep, and the terrifying dangers that lurk just under the images we spend so much time trying to maintain.
Careful what you lie for.

Many turns of the screw. A wealthy mother who loves her 5-year-old daughter. Her handsome caring husband. Their nanny who comes to look as if she could be the mother's twin. A shocking, bloody murder that makes you want to hurl this book into a fire. The screw turns as many times as a hurtling car. Only in the last few pages does justice triumph. Happiness beams all around a Block Island cottage, a Brooklyn bungalow, and a California home. - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5

One of the most disappointing books I've ever listened to. None of it made any sense, and quite honestly I was very disappointed with the entire plot and outcome. And the intro getting into the main plot was exhausting to listen to. Some parts were a bit funny, but overall, I could not wait for it to end, simply out of curiosity about where the story was going. Not my cup of tea. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

WOW! What an original!! My first by Sophie Stava but definitely not my last. Characters you love and will love to hate, engaging dialogue, and even more importantly, a storyline that grabs, pulls you in immediately, and doesn’t let go. Excellent narration by the narrators as well!
ETA: So, it appears this absolute thriller of a story is Ms. Stava’s first novel which makes me even more impressed. I’m adding her name to my list of authors to read and fingers crossed - she writes more! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Much of the story seemed derivative, though the outcomes were different. I found the writing annoyingly repetitive when the main character talked about swooning over another character. Kept my interest if only to see how it would differ from other books I’ve read. If you haven’t read much in this genre then you should enjoy it. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5

The synopsis sounded interesting. The first 25% of the book had me intrigued. The next 50% dragged. And in the end it’s an implausible story that’s been done several times before.
If you’re an avid thriller reader and stay up to date on other popular domestic thrillers you’ll likely be disappointed by this one.
If you’re going to try this tired old trope at least make it more fun and exciting along the way. Make the characters more likable. Maybe then I’d be OK with suspending a little belief in the end.1 person found this helpful

Wow! This wasn’t what I thought. After reading so many thrillers, they sometimes can all be the same but this one was different and it was very entertaining. I listened to it in one sitting.3 people found this helpful
