THE HOTLY ANTICIPATED SEQUEL
TO THE NO. 1 BESTSELLER CARRY ON

Simon Snow is back and he's coming to America!

The story is supposed to be over.

Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after…

So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?

What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light…

That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West. They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place…

With Wayward Son, Rainbow Rowell has delivered an audiobook for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And an audiobook for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first. It’s another helping of sour cherry scones with an absolutely decadent amount of butter.

Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over – but your life has just begun.

Editor's Note

Lay your weary head to rest…

Simon Snow and his magician friends (maybe lovers?) Penny and Baz go on a trip to America, where they find that their magic works a little differently than in England. Rainbow Rowell’s Harry Potter-inspired story goes to new fantastical heights in this sequel to “Carry On.”

I honestly LOVE Simon and Baz, I was a little dissapointed at the ending though... It wasn't a cliff hanger, it felt more like the book had been cut short. But still I'm glad I got to be in their world again

I am in shock from that unfinished epilogue/prologue (Sure, Simon never heard the “love” Penny did but Baz told him he made him “fell in love”, didn’t he?). What a rollercoaster. Rainbow Rowell surely knows how to make one dislike a place (although Simon was having a blast). Loved Agatha’s character growth and how Simon still saves the day without magic (honestly, those wings are BOMB). Nothing can’t top the masterpiece that was Carry On but this was a very appropriate sequel. I mean... I came here not knowing what to expect (Baz even mentioned that his relationship wasn’t the erotic gropefest he imagined at the end of last book) AND I’m usually a plot driven gal so, while I’m not upset we didn’t dive deep in our characters’ heads, I can see why the execution of this book might not be some people’s cup of tea. I know I was frustrated with the magic situation and the introduction of those vampires (I loathe vampires in general... Baz being the only exception in literature) but their reactions spoke volumes to what is going on in their heads... Speaking of, I know this felt like it was Baz’s book but Simon had great scenes too. I’m confident everything will be addressed in the next book which brings me hope :) 4.5 stars!

Well, this was disappointing. The banter pushed me through this! The rest is a road trip story that character-wise leads us back to where it started… which is basically the ending of "Carry On".

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. I felt that the quality dropped noticeably. The first one has a rich plot, while this one is mostly filled up by dialogue and the characters' thoughts...

A little sad and depressed along the way and a lot of heartache. But I love Baz and Simon together.

ALL ANGST NO COMFORT- this book is amazing, but I have to admit it was hard to be left with such unresolved anxieties for both Simon and Baz when the book first came out. It was like a kick in the face to wait for the next book after what you just have finished.

Now it just hyped me up for the last book that is waiting me at home. What a great second book!

It was sooo, soooo good and fun to read! I just love it, wholeheartedly. The way Rowell constructs her characters is quite remarkable; they are truly believeable, diverse and *alive*. Having to say goodbye to them all for almost half a year, till the third book comes up, is hollowing.

Love love love!!! This is a great story for anyone who has already fallen in love with these characters. It shows excellent character development and dives deeper into the relationship between everyone in the group. I do think only those who enjoyed the first book would really appreciate this 2nd installment. I feel newcomers to the series would not particularly find this story interesting as the climax of the story basically already happened (kinda the point of the book). But for everyone who really did want to see what happens when the Hero has come, seen, and conquered....now must return to life like everyone else, this story is for you!

I said when I first read it that it was even better than Carry On, because we were already in the thick of it as far as everyone's relationships. I love how it tackles depression, intimacy (and how complex that can feel even with someone you love and are attracted to) and belonging. We get to see Baz's ideas about what it means to be vampire tossed on their heads. We keep the same world and characters and funny vibes that I loved the first time. But I think what I really, really loved was how different it was too? It is a whole new story and not the playing around with tropes that the first one was, because this is the story we don't usually get. The hero, a mess, after arguably saving the world, trying to have his happily ever after, with a boy, and that boy trying to be what he needs to feel healthy and whole and validated. And it's not possible. No matter how much you love someone, you can't fix their mental health for them, and Simon has been through a lot.

This book is VERY different from the first. Still addictive and fun, but a little more emotional (with good reason!). Waiting for book 3 is going to be tortuous.

I don’t know if it’s because I listened to the audiobook, but the story didn’t flow well and seemed choppy. Lots of good lines though, I laughed quite a bit.
