About this audiobook
When his father and older brother suddenly pass away, the new Duke of Haverly is saddled with a title he never expected to bear. To thwart the plans of his scheming family, the duke impulsively marries a wallflower. After all, she's meek and mild; it should be easy to sequester her in the country and get on with his life-as a secret agent for the Crown.
But his bride has other ideas. She's determined to take her place not only as his duchess but as his wife. As a duchess, she can use her position to help the lowest of society-the women forced into prostitution because they have no skills or hope. Her endeavors are not met favorably in society, nor by her husband who wishes she'd remain in the background as he ordered.
Can the duke succeed in relegating her to the sidelines of his life? When his secrets are threatened with exposure, will his new wife be an asset or a liability?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So far the book is interesting, but I cannot handle the narrator. It wrecks the book. I’m sorry for the strong review, but she puts to much inflection into her voice and does not pronounce her T’s. For that reason alone I only listened briefly. Some might like? If she wud narrate in a normal voice I think she cud be quite lovely.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I LOVED IT! And that's even with listening to Mary Sarah read it!!! If you've read any of my reviews of audiobooks that she has read, you know that her narration almost always affects my view of the book. She is one of my very least favorite readers because of her over use of inflections.
But I loved this story from the very first page. Marcus had me wrapped around his little finger. The story had it all. I don't feel that the blurb does the book justice. I didn't get the impression of Lady Charlotte that the book's description tries to portray.
I appreciated that the story included some suspense elements. Marcus is a spy after all! I also enjoyed getting to have Evan and Diana, from the first book in the series, as part of this story as well. It is not necessary to have read that one first though.
One of my new favorites.
I do want to add that there are some topics discussed that would be for more mature readers. Abuse of women and prostitution are a couple of them. Martial relations are also a small theme of parts of the book that may not be suitable for younger readers. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it! Was really great getting to know the character Marcus better.
