About this audiobook

Cassie Parker has grown used to denying her sexuality. Her father, the fire-and-brimstone Reverend Parker, has made that a necessity. Raised in a web of secrets, sadness, and under the heavy hand of her father's righteous wrath and intolerance, Cassie turns to her art to fill the hole in her heart and erase the memory of a mother who abandoned her in childhood. Then Luke Winston enters her life. Strong, mysterious, and beautiful, Luke sparks Cassie's desire, and takes her heart to places she's never known. Soon Cassie can no longer deny her attraction to women-and especially to Luke.

When Cassie's father makes an unexpected visit, the intrusion on her new life explodes as dark family secrets are revealed. Will Cassie choose a life without family . . . or a life without love?

Cassie is a sculptor, she uses found driftwood to carve lots of animals, though she seems to have an affinity for carving Eagles (and Squirrels). Luke (short for Lucinda, that one threw me for a loop at first on the description page) is new in town. She's an architect building a house nearby. Through fate as well as purpose, they meet each other. Then, Cassie's father (a very homophobic Reverend) appears and much angst gets introduced into the story. It's the classic Blood family vs. Found/Made family. And, even before the Reverend comes onto the scene there's lots of back and forth and slight uncomfortable-ness between Luke and Cassie. Cassie is an interesting character in and unto herself, sort of deep in the closet, but if you read closely not totally in the closet too. I'm not sure I've read a character quite like Cassie, well, ever.I do wish that there was more about Cassie's mother and Luke's former girlfriend. We got glimpses into those worlds, but I thought it would have been great if we had seen more (sequel? Just kidding.)Honestly I liked this novel as much as I've ever liked a piece of lesbian fiction. It wasn't my favorite one ever, but Gerri Hill always seems to have slightly better than average lesbian fiction romances.

Another great romance from Gerri Hill. Great charcters to love and want to know more about. Nice light summer reading choice. Follows the same formula that most of these types of books do, but that is why we like them. Classic girl meets girl, girl falls in love kind of book.
