About this audiobook

Life after the war takes an unexpected turn for the Kopp sisters, but soon enough, they are putting their unique detective skills to use in new and daring ways.

Winter 1919: Norma is summoned home from France, Constance is called back from Washington, and Fleurette puts her own plans on hold as the sisters rally around their recently widowed sister-in-law and her children. How are the four
women going to support themselves?

A chance encounter offers Fleurette an exciting, lucrative solution: clandestine legal work for a former colleague of Constance’s. On the sly, she becomes a “professional co-respondent,” posing as the “other woman” in divorce cases so
that photographs can be entered as evidence to procure a divorce. When one client’s suspicious behavior leads Fleurette to uncover a much larger crime, she finds herself in the family business and in the unlikely position of amateur detective.

In Miss Kopp Investigates, Amy Stewart brilliantly captures the women of this era—their ambitions for the future as well as the ties that bind—at the start of a promising new decade and once again provides “smart, fun, staunchly feminist
entertainment” (Kirkus Reviews).

2022 book #28. 2021. The 7th in a series of quasi-historical novels. The 3 Kopp sisters struggle to find a place for themselves in post-WW1 New Jersey. The story focuses on the youngest sister, Fleurette, who comes to grips with the end of her barely started theater career.

I’ve enjoyed this series since day one, but this installment felt like a cumulation of all of the great things in the previous books. I love that Stewart continues to explore multiple points of view, and continues to offer a unique and compelling portrait of New Jersey in the early 20th century— this one set in 1918, I believe, with the war just over and a different domestic disaster suddenly descending on the Kopp sisters. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the developments in this story make me even more eager for the next, not least for the glamour that Fleurette so unapologetically brings to the table.

This book continues the Kopp Sisters series of mystery novels. Although it is not necessary to read the other books in the series, it is helpful to have the backstories of the characters. Constance, Norma, and Fleurette deal with the aftermath of war in this latest entry in the series. Following the death of their brother Francis, the sisters assist his widow and children as they try to pay off expenses and to survive without his support. Secrets are revealed, and youngest sister Fleurette obtains lucrative employment to assist her family. Intrigue abounds as the sisters try to discover what happened to the family finances. Frictions arise between bossy Norma, commanding Constance, and flighty Fleurette. The twisty ending sets the scene for the next novel in the series.Readers new to the series will find this latest entry a compelling read. The author provides ample notes at the end of the book, setting the story within its real-life historical context. This is a clean novel, without overt violence or the use of strong language or sexual scenes. I received this novel from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

I knew it! After World War I, the Kopp sisters come back even stronger. Surprise, it’s not Constance doing the investigating, its Fleurette who steals the show and bossy Norma who backs her up. The buildup is slow before getting to the mystery, but Stewart has done a masterful job of showing what life was like for women in the early 20th century. The ending is perfect, with a clear way forward into future Kopp books that use the strengths of all the sisters.

This seventh book in the Kopp sisters series is true winner! The sisters, back home in New Jersey after WWI, are forced to confront financial problems after the sudden death of their brother leaves his widow and young children with no support. In this installment, youngest sister, Fleurette, is the star investigator and she truly shines. Her unsavory yet lucrative work for an attorney leads her on a hunt for a criminal swindler. Her eldest sister, Constance, was Bergen County’s first female deputy sheriff so perhaps chasing criminals is in the blood. The relationship between the sisters rings absolutely true and the historical details and the fact that everything is based on real people and actual events make this a fun series to dive into.My thanks to Amy Stewart and Mariner for a digital arc provided with no expectation of a review.

I am amazed that the historical Kopp sisters continue to provide fruitful material for novels, and that even more are on the way! Amy Stewart continues to write delightful and charming books that are both funny and full of heart. In this installment, the Kopp sisters find that all of their post-war plans have to be put aside because their brother has died and they have to take care of his pregnant widow. Their brother left mysterious debts behind, and they have to find the cause of those debts and figure out how to make ends meet.

cozy-mystery, family-dynamics, friendship, law-enforcement, lawyers, swindles, historical-figures, historical-novel, historical-places-events, historical-research, situational-humor, verbal-humor, post WW1, New Jersey*****The war is over and the Kopp sisters find themselves giving up their dream futures and returning home to New Jersey because their only brother has suddenly died. Turns out that his finances were pretty dire because of loyalty to his employer. They make housing arrangement based on the children and that the widow is expecting another. Then Fleurette comes down with strep, is ill for some time, and lost her singing voice. Norma rules their world, Constance winds up as a store detective, and Fleurette comes upon a better paying position but the older sisters pitch such a fit that she moves out and away (but still in New Jersey). Then thing really get interesting! Another great read! Loved it! And I'm glad for the reality comparison at the end, too.I requested and received a free ebook copy from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt/Mariner Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

WWI is over, and the Kopp sisters have plans. Constance has a job opportunity in Washington D.C. Norma misses her dear friend, still in Europe as a nurse, and thinks about returning to join her. Fleurette is recovering from an illness that has left her voice in ruins, so her plans for going back on stage is on hold. But she has arranged for an room rental and an independent life.Their plans come to a halt with the death of their brother, Francis; his wife Bessie is pregnant with their third child. Norma takes leadership and decides the sisters will sell the farm, buy the house next door to Bessie, and support her family. The sisters find drudge work, but Fleurette discovers her brother owed money all over town. And, it appears he took out a mortgage on the house and they don’t know where the money went.In 1919, there were few choices for women on their own. Fleurette accepts work for a lawyer, posing in photographs with men seeking divorces. The pay is good, but it puts her in peril. In Miss Kopp Investigates, Fleurette get top billing. The girl is grown up and longs to be out from under the control of her elder sisters. She has a flare for disguises, but more than that, she has an inquisitive mind and a good heart. She follows a hunch and unearths a scam and, yes, saves the day! Hooray for Fleurette!Amy Stewart has gifted her readers another fun historical fiction mystery based on the lives of the real Kopp sisters and their world. I love these characters. And I enjoy how Stewart uses their stories to bring us into the lives of women a hundred years ago.I received a free egalley from the publisher through NetGalley. My review is fair and unbiased.

This 7th book in stories about the Kopps begins in 1919 when the three Kopp sisters (based on actual sisters) are dealing with the sudden death of their brother Francis, leaving behind his wife Bessie and their children. The four women, now once again together in Paterson, New Jersey, all need a means of support, and the answer is found through Fleurette, who uses her skills as an actress to help in private detective work. Eventually she uncovers a serious crime, which leads her to do her own detecting. The other two Kopps women worked as well. Constance began working as a store detective. Norma worked “in house” so to speak, running the household and taking responsibility for their family farm. The adventures of the women are firmly set within the times and the opportunities - or lack thereof - for women.Amy Stewart is an entertaining writer, and fans of the series will not be disappointed.
