- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed this book, but not as much as the first in the series. I think it's probably because I rarely find second chance stories to be as enjoyable. I'd rather enjoy the thrill of a new romance than hash over what is often petty grudges over the stupidity of youth. Teenagers make stupid choices, it's how we (hopefully!) learn to make better choices in the future - get over it.
Given that, I found grown up Lucas and Mia to be reasonable people with robust lives and the suspense story was interesting without being too over the top. I'll definitely read #3 when it comes out. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This installment in the ARES series is an edge of your seat thriller with a whole load of romance. Back home Lucas St. Clair has deep roots and big connections but he wants nothing to do with them. Which is why he left them and the only woman he had ever loved behind. But when Mia Ramon is threatened he will move heaven and earth to keep her safe. But Mia is wary of the man who broke her heart. And she is determined not to depend on him ever again. Unfortunately, they need each other to figure out who killed their friend and who now has Mia in their cross-hairs.
I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from NetGalley for voluntary review consideration. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have been counting down the days waiting on this book. Ms. Ivy has always been on my favorite authors list and I loved her paranormal series. This new series about five ex-POWs starting a security firm while also finding women they can love is just perfect. I've really liked all the characters that have been introduced so far, so I really don't think there will be a bad book in this series at all. My only problem is I have to wait for each book; It's sooo long between them (not really, but it feels like it). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Kill Without Shame by Alexandra IvyARES Security #2Another action-packed romance with murder, suspense, a bit of a mystery to solve and a second chance at love for Lucas and Mia was okay for me but did not have me as enthralled as the first book in the series.Lucas had Mia dated in high school but 15 years before the book starts he decided they should break up for her own good – without asking or explaining or anything. When he realizes she might be in danger he drops everything, utilizes ARES Security personnel (his buddies from the service) and goes to protect Mia. Needless to say Mia is less than excited…at least at first. Personally I would have given him the boot or made him work harder to get me back but she did what she did for her own reasons. They do get their HEA but only after quite a few leads are followed, their lives are threatened, a secondary romance takes place, hooks for future books in the series are set and the bad guy is caught. I have to say the story was well written if slightly predictable to me. I am not a great fan of second-chance-at-love stories because when I dated guys a second time the same things that were wrong with the relationship proved to be wrong the second time, too. Unless there is some major and believable reason for the separation, of course. I enjoyed the story and do look forward to reading the stories of Teague, Max and Hauk in the future. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the copy to read. This is my honest review. 3 Stars
