About this audiobook

Author Kathleen Van Cleve delivers a promising debut with this magical novel. Eleven-year-old Polly Peabody lives on a farm like no other. It rains every Monday at 1:00 p.m., the crops taste like chocolate, the bugs can communicate, and Polly's best friend is a rhubarb plant named Harry. But when the weekly downpours stop, and Polly's brother grows ill, she must figure out how to make it rain again-or her family's future could be destroyed. "Cleve's debut is emotionally subtle and action packed with a highly memorable setting."-Publishers Weekly

I liked this, and I think tween girls will too.

I have to admit that chocolate flavored rhubarb is a bit enticing. You get chocolate but it is really a vegetable. I liked 11 year old Polly and how she evolved and came out of her shell. I wish Basford would have been stronger. You always have the "bad girl" and this time it was Jongy which always adds a good element for readers. I wanted her father's research to become more prominent and to me the farm is nice but all those millions to sell. I would think long and hard before passing that up.
The magic element was a little over the top for me as I like every loose end to be tied and for every situation to eventually have a logical if not scientific reason.

This was an interesting read. I listened to it on audio while trying to fall asleep, which is probably why it was such an interesting read. Parts of it may have made for some interesting dreams.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The heroine is multifaceted and the reader feels her successes and disappointments acutely. The plot is clever, and there is enough character development for the reader to become invested in the characters. Overall a great read.
