About this audiobook

An absolute delight of a madcap story for the young (and young-at-heart) by New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman, with equal parts pirates and piranhas, adventure and aliens, oddity and love.

""I bought the milk,"" said my father. ""I walked out of the corner shop, and heard a noise like this: t h u m m t h u m m. I looked up and saw a huge silver disc hovering in the air above Marshall Road.""

""Hullo,"" I said to myself. ""That's not something you see every day. And then something odd happened.""

Find out just how odd things get in this hilarious story of time travel and breakfast cereal, expertly told by Newbery Medalist and bestselling author Neil Gaiman.

I loved this book. My dad may not have told such stories after going to get milk, but he is definitely the kind who would. This book is the perfect tribute to fatherly trolling. And it has everything that a dad coming up with a story on the spot would have. Dinosaurs. Pirates. Aliens. Time travel. Vampires. All mixed up and told with just the barest possible covering of logic. And the kid's interruptions are exactly what the reader is thinking. And what can you say, when your dad says "well, this is what happened"? You just have to accept it and try to catch him later, when he's least expecting it. This book captures perfectly the best parts of the teasing that kids and dads share. Reading this book evoked memories of the crazy stories told to us by my dad and grandpa. Helping J.K Rowling write Harry Potter. Knowing the real Harry Potter. Stories with Star Wars, Star Trek and Planet of the Apes mixed in. All backed up with little gadgets and details. Read this book to your kids. Or make up a story just as good. Read this book as an adult and remember those times your dad told an awesome story you didn't believe, but then turned out to be absolutely true because your dad was really cool before you were born.

Me parece a combinação perfeita.

I thought this was fun, I definitely enjoy Gaiman's middle grade more than his adult works. This was just silly and a very quick read, and I loved his narration of it. My daughter really enjoyed this and we read it in one sitting, with the audio on but flipping through along with it to see the illustrations.

Having finished the book, I sat it down on the table for my dad to ready next. He said, “you finished the whole book?” I replied, “I finished the whole book.” Daddy corrected, “No you didn’t. You giggled through the whole book.”This is the story of a father who went out to get the milk and came back a little later than his kids would have liked. They assumed he just got held up taking with a neighbor, but no. He went on an adventure involving a stegosaurus in a hot air balloon time machine, pirates, aliens, wumpires, and cannibals. Fortunately, he and the milk survived. Why are you still reading this? Go get the book now!

Fun, but not up to Gaiman's usual standards for a children's book. This is in large part just because it's written for a younger audience than his other children's books. I think this book is meant to be read aloud by a parent to a child, with excitement, big gestures, and interaction. It's almost like a very lengthy, wordy picture-book, but just a little more involved. I may read it to a kid someday.

There is not much to say about this, other than Jesus Christ this man's imagination is all over the place in this short tale about a dad who goes to the corner store to buy milk. He goes on this amazing adventure that I cannot say much about or else the space police will come and get me but, fortunately, the milk is brought to his children safe and sound for them to have breakfast.
Or is it the milk he bought?

This was a Christmas present for my 5 year old son. Unfortunately it proved to be too scary for him and we had to stop after a half a dozen pages (he is very easily scared for his age, we can't even watch Disney movies). However, by that point I was quite into it, so I carried on. It really is excellent. Basically, a dad goes out for milk but takes a very long time, when he returns home he tells his kids a tall tale about how he's escaped from various situations, usually thanks to the milk he'd just bought. The adventures keep coming. The illustrations are great. And it breaks up easily into sections for reading a little at a time. I don't think my boy will be ready for it for a while yet, but I can't wait until he is.
