The endearing friendship of frog and toad is explored in five stories in this book. They look for lost buttons, wait for the mail, make up stories, go for a swim, and take joy in the coming of spring.

A Frog and Toad book with five short stories. "Spring," "The Story," "A Lost Button," "A Swim," and "The Letter." A good start for any beginning reader as there is large print and a small picture on each page. Simple pictures, and good short stories that are all about their friendship and how they always want to be around each other.

Good book in my choice. The way that children gain relationships when they are young doing activities as a group with another child could be used from this book. They also could read this when beginning to read. The easy, big text it gave and the pictures in the book too. It could teach a lesson to have one close friend that you could do everything with .

This is a good fantasy book because the animals talk in the book and so the events in this book could never take place in the real world. The setting does however take place in a world that seems similar to Earth, which is also another aspect of fantasy. The setting builds on the storyline in each chapter through the illustration. One could use this book in a classroom to teach children friendship and the importance of having at least one very close friend that you can share many things with. The media is oil paints.

The Caldecott Honor Book Frog and Toad Are Friends, is an excellent example of a quality picture book. This easy reader appeals to children ages four to eight and can be used for low or reluctant readers. Almost every page is illustrated and accurately corresponds to the text. If the story is being read to a child by an adult, the pictures will engage and focus the listener on the plot, setting, characters, etc. The independent reader will enjoy looking and the picture while reading and may gain guidance from the pictures if they are having trouble with vocabulary or comprehension. Children can relate to the stories in the book without interference of stereotyping based on gender or ethnicity. Although both Frog and Toad are male, their friendship can be applied to both genders. The amphibians do not risk offending any readers based on their “ethnicity” because the author had the foresight to create characters below the human class. The illustrations are soft in color, muted tones of greens, yellows and browns, which invite the readers to pause and consider the pictures along with the text. The characters themselves are realistic and resemble the real creatures, with the exception of walking on their hind legs.

Frog and Toad Together consists of five different stories. These stories are "A List", "The Garden", "Cookies", "Dragons and Giants", and "The Dream". All of these stories have a way of teaching children important lessons. Frog and Toad have very different personalities but despite their differeces they are best friends and do everything together. In all of these stories Frog and Toad stick together to get things done and overcome fears. This is a great book for beginning readers! It is easy to read and understand and children can relate well to all of the stories. The illustrations are simple but unique. They are not like the books are today with their bright colors, instead they have pictures with black, white, brown, and green colors. I used to read these books when I was younger and I loved them. Children today can still relate to these stories and I'm sure they will love them too.Classroom Extension #1: You can have children do an activity that deals with each story. For "A List", children can make their own list of what they do each day. For "The Garden", the children can grow their own plant by planting a seed in a dixie cup and watering it each day and watching it grow. For "Cookies" and "Dragons and Giants" you can have a discussion with the kids about each topic like what the children are scared of and what makes them feel brave. For "Dreams", let the children draw a picture of or write a paragraph about a dream that they have had.Classroom Extension #2: Do a literature circle lesson in which you read "Frog and Toad Together" along with the other Frog and Toad series books. You can read the books aloud to the class or you can divide the children into groups. Give each group a copy of the books and let them take turns reading aloud to their group.

Summary: There were five different stories in this book all about Toad and Frog and their friendship and journeys. Response: These are very fun stories to read with fun illustrations. Connection: Kids would love reading these stories on their own or in a small group. Could discuss what they do with their friends and how they help their friends.

Frog and Toad stand up to the test of time! These are great stories for early readers, but fun for the adult who is assisting the young reader. Frog and Toad share many adventures and many of them are very silly, but through it all they remain fast friends.

In the stories of Frog and Toad, they go through many adventures and get through them together. The first chapter is about Frog creating a list and having to abide by it strictly. The list is then lost and Frog decides he cannot catch it because that is not on his list. Another story is about how tough it is to have willpower when eating cookies. Frog and Toad try everything to get rid of the cookies. Once they have given the cookies to the birds, Toad decides to go bake a cake.I loved the stories of Frog and Toad. The stories have a great them of friendship. Each chapter has a different theme that is realistic to what children face daily. One activity could be to write a list of things to do. We then will have to follow the list. If we forget a step on the list, we then as a group will decide what we'll have to do. In another activity, the children can draw a picture of their best friend and write about why they are best friends.

Frog and Toad agreed: it was a perfect day for a swim. And Frog was kind enough not to look at Toad in his bathing suit, per Toad's request. But when the swimming was over, a crowd had gathered to see Toad in his funny-looking suit, and neither Frog nor Toad could make them leave.

A collection of 5 short stories about Frog and Toad’s adventures. My favorite short story from the book is titled Dragons and Giants. In Dragons and Giants, Frog and Toad were reading a book of fairy tales and it made them wonder if they were brave like the characters in the book. They go outside to test their braveness by climbing a mountain. As they started climbing they were greeted by a hungry snake, an avalanche of rocks, and a hawk looking for prey. After they finish their hike, there is an illustration of Toad hiding in his covers and Frog hiding in the closet.I remember this book being mentioned in Andrew Clements’ book titled Extra Credit when I read it, which is what influenced me to read it. I thought the book was cute and that it would be great for kids who are having trouble reading. Extension Ideas1. Classify animals based on their characteristics into amphibian, mammal, etc.2. Read the short story titled Cookies to teach about self-will.

Summary: This is a story about when toad made alist of things to do for him and frog. As the day went on everything that toad did he would cross off his list, for example get up, get dressed. On their day out the wind ended up blowing the list away. So they sat down and toad tried to think of what was on the list. Since he couldnt remember what was on his list he did not want to do anything because it wasnt on his list. So they say down by a rock and went to sleep because toad rememberd going to sleep was the last thing on his list.Personal Experience: As a child I remember my grandma reading this story to me several of times. I also remember reading this book in the school library.Classroom Extensions: 1. After reading the story I would have the students make a list of things that they normally do in the day. 2. I would ask the students of other ways that toad and frog could have worked out the problem of losing the list.

This is the story of friendship. The book has 5 differnt stories about their escapades. Frog and Toad help each other during illness. They accept each other (Frog is optimistic and Toad is sometimes a grump; however they respect one another. They have fun together and enjoys each others company. When Toad loses a button after retracting their steps to no avail, Toad finds it in his home. All the buttons collected while retracing their steps through the meadow, woods, and river,he sewed them onto his jacket and gave the jacket to his friend Frog;who was very happy to have it. Frog tried to cheer his friend who never recieved mail,so he writes to Toad but gives it to snail. It takes 4 days to reach Toad. Frog and Toad waited together patiently until it arrives and Toad is happy. The illustrations ink and the colors are in hues of green and brown.Personal Reaction:I enjoyed the book. Friendship requires knowing, loving and supporting each other, no matter our faults.Classroom Extension Ideas: 1. After reading the story, children could be asked to describe their friends.2.In the story of the "Lost Button" it could be used as a concept for teaching opposites.

I simply adore the supremely cute illustrations. They are sweet and evocative, and in my opinion, they tell the story of frog and toad's friendship in a way that the rather simplistic narrative just does not and cannot. I know that Frog and Toad Are Friends is a classic of American children's literature and that for many, the book likely holds very fond and nostalgic childhood memories. However, I found the text rather dragging when I read this book as a child, and I was still finding the narrative somewhat long-winded, and even a trifle monotonous when I recently reread Frog and Toad Are Friends for a group discussion in the Children's Literature Group's Picture Book Club. I think that while the text does manage to successfully show the deep friendship between frog and toad, the accompanying illustrations are actually much more evocative of that friendship and certainly much more fun and entertaining (I was actually getting a bit annoyed at the many repetitions and at times just wanted the stories to be over and done). I would still recommend Frog and Toad Are Friends as both a read-aloud and for independent first reading activities, but I honestly cannot see all that much in the narrative that is magical or exciting (in fact, I think for me, this book would have worked and would work better as a wordless picture book).I do have one small confession to make. The very first time I read Frog and Toad Are Friends was in 1976. I was ten years old, and we had just immigrated to Canada from Germany. The book was given to me as an in-class reading assignment, and I felt annoyed and embarrassed that I, a grade four student, who had been reading rather lengthy German children's books for more than two years (since grade two), was suddenly in a position of having to read books originally conceived for much younger children (due to my lack of English language skills). I have always wondered if that feeling of childhood embarrassment might have contributed to my rather lukewarm reaction to Frog and Toad Are Friends. However, even now, as an adult, I simply cannot get myself to really, truly enjoy the text (of course, I now no longer feel that sense of embarrassment and I truly am able to appreciate the wonderful illustrations, but the narrative continues to feel somewhat lackluster to me).

This is a great book for a beginner reader. The vocabulary is simple but also contains some words and concepts that would add to a child's vocabulary and understanding of the world. This book contains 5 stories about good friends Frog and Toad. They go on adventures together and learn an important lesson along the way. They learn about will power when trying to not eat all the cookies, patience when waiting for a garden to grow, bravery when facing scary obstacles, and the value of friendship in a scary dream. The stories are funny and enjoyable to read. They are written in a way that children can easily understand the dilemma and the resolution of it. Frog and Toad think the way that children often do which makes it easy to learn from. They are quick to read and amusing and deserving of the Newbery honor that it received. The illustrations that accompany these lessons and make them even funnier.

This is an early chapter book for the primary grades. This book is in the fantasy genre. In this ink and wash book, Frog and Toad are on a different adventure for each chapter. The two friends are constantly doing some mindless task such as looking all over the forest for a lost button, which they soon find is at home. No matter what happens in each story, Frog and Toad are best of friends and put their minds together in everything they do. This book could be used in lessons about friendships. This book could be used for independent reading or small reading groups. This book characterizes both Frog and Toad as small, simple creatures with simple minds. The illustrations reinforce this as they are done with very little color, and the clothing they wear and things they do reinforce the words on the page. This is a good example of fantasy because two amphibians can talk and are best of friends. There are also lots of other animals who speak in the stories, and all are personified.

The Frog and Toad book is very low key. Frog and Toad are friends with very different personalities. Frog is an optimist, Toad a pessimist. These personalities lead to different takes on the situations they find themselves in (which are not very fantastic or dramatic — going swimming and wanting privacy, losing a button, waiting for a letter), but they are always kind to each other. The language is very simple, there is not likely to be more than one or two words that a young child would not know, and in fact, almost all five- or six-year olds would know every word in the book. The pictures straightforwardly illustrate the action, everything in the illustration (except background scenery) is typically mentioned in the text. The style is fairly realistic in a way. The backgrounds are quite realistic, the animals are easily recognizable, but the animals are walking on their hind legs, have clothing, and live in houses. The type is large and lines are well-separated. The lines are broken not so much when no more words will fit on the line, but when a line break can sustain a pause (e.g., before, not after, an ‘and’ in a sentence). For a young child just starting out reading, the appeal is the best-friends story, and the possibility to understand everything in the book. The content does not stretch the child’s mind particularly, but in an early reader that is not necessary, as the child is stretching his mind concentrating on the new skill of reading. The book has good values, humor, and is told in a friendly, down-to-earth manner. The book can be used to talk with children about what they like to do, about friendship, about what friends do for each other. They can also be used to talk about the themes of the different stories. What do they do when they lose something? What are they shy about? How do they deal with shyness? Have they ever received a letter? Written a letter? How do they communicate with people they love who they cannot meet?

Frog and Toad books are a series of books that are loved by many young readers. Frog and Toad Together is arranged like a chapter book, but is actually five separate stories. In each story there is a lesson to be learned. I think all classrooms and libraries should have the Frog and Toad collection in them. The stories in these books offer students a chance to read a longer, chapter-like book. but with an easier reading level than most chapter books. I would use these books in my classroom for different purposes. I think they would be good to read to expose kids to quality literature. I also think that they would be good to teach children how to figure out the moral of the story. This also helps with comprehension of longer stories.

Frog and Toad Together is a short chapter book that is about a close friendship between two friends that are always together. The book has 5 chapters in it and they each tell different stories about their lives. All of the stories are extremely different, but some of my favorite is The Garden and Cookies. In The Garden, Frog give Toad some seeds to start his very own garden, with the warning that having a garden was a lot of work. Toad took on the challenge and did everything that he could to have his seeds grow. Once his seeds blossomed, he realized how much hard work really pays off in the end. Cookies is a chapter on the practice of will power. Toad made cookies to share with Frog, they were the best cookies ever, but they didn't want to eat all of them so they came up with different ideas to not eat the cookies. This book would be a great book to read during different parts of the year. I would read The Garden towards the end of the year to keep my students motivated to work hard. This would also be a great take-home book for students to read with their guardians. Genre: realistic fiction, fantasy.

Frog and Toad are best friends and they do everything together. There are four different adventures that they have. They go on a walk and Toad loses his to do list. Then Toad plants seeds for a garden and has trouble waiting for them to grow. Next, Toad shares the cookies he baked with Frog. The last story was my favorite. Toad had a dream that he could do everything better than Frog until Frog was now longer around. Toad realized in the end how important his friend was. I have best friends that are always there. I think this book would help the students to appreciate their friends. They might also learn how to be a better friend. Toad and Frog always stuck together no matter what problems they faced. In the classroom, I would have the children pair up and draw the outlines of each other. The students would lie down on the paper and their partner would draw their outline. Next, they would then draw that person with clothes, glasses, hair and shoes. Then they would get up in front of the class and tell about their friend.

Frog and Toad Are Friends is a classic that remains so because of its unique ability to portray friendship that children can relate too! Each story in the book relays the small but meaningful emotional difficulties and victories that friends go through together.

Best friends Frog and Toad do everything together, from planting a garden to eating too many cookies to finding out if they are truly brave, but at the end of the day, it’s not their adventures that matter but their strong friendship. This early reader supports children learning to read with large text and simple, poetic sentences. Frog and Toad are charming characters, utterly retable in their foibles, and rendered appealingly in soft green-and-brown illustrations. Young readers will particular enjoy the sense of familiarity that comes with following these characters through a series of adventures. The book is divided into five stories, each twelve pages and each working perfectly as a standalone story. Libraries should definitely include this Newbery-Honor-winning classic in their collection. Recommended for readers age 6 to 9.

Frog and Toad Together is one book in the series of the four Frog and Toad books. Frog and Toad together has five chapters, and each chapter tells a different story. The first chapter is about Toad and Frog's adventures with Toad's to do list. The second chapter is about Frog's garden and Toad trying to grow his own flowers. In the next chapter, Toad baked cookies and brought them over to Frog's house. They can't stop eating the cookies so they put them in a box and give them to the birds. The next chapter is about Frog and Toad reading a book together. They attempt to be like the characters in the story they are reading and be brave. The final chapter is all about Toad's dream. This story is about friendship and all of the different types of things you can do with friends. Even though Frog and Toad are not humans, they sure act like them. They do many of the same activities and think like humans. This quality makes this book a good example of a fantasy. This book also has a great plot. Each chapter has its own events that are needed for a good plot. There is always a good conflict and resolution.

Genre: Fantasy Age Appropriateness: Intermediate Review: This book is a good example of fantasy because the story is believable but would not happen in reality because the frog and toad are personified. Frog and Toad are always together in the story. There are five chapters about flowers, cookies, bravery, dreams and most of all, friendship. Fantasy does not deceive, but tells the truth that children cannot understand unless in an imaginary story. By using your imagination, you are able to connect and relate to Frog and Toad's story. Media: This book is a good example of ink and wash because the characters and scenery are outlined with ink and filled with watercolor. The pictures allow readers to connect to the writing on a deeper level.

This wonderful chapter book, Frog and Toad Together, takes the reader on 5 different adventures. Each adventure takes the reader through a problem and then a solution will be made. The wonderful thing is that these characters, Frog and Toad, go through each problem together so they have the support of their friendship through rough times. They learn from each other and help one another through everything. This book is a wonderful book for children to read and get lost in. Its one of those books that children will remember when they are adults. This book has also been used for teaching instruction and its known as a classic book for children. Great literature with great illustrations!
