One of the best books I read/listened to in 2023. The story just gets better and better and the characters are complex and multidimensionnal.
Dived in the second book just after and it was just as good.
    Great and underrated.

I got 3/4 through the first book and I just could not get into it. I don't like the main character. Everything is about her love for her brother... But somehow the writing doesn't make us actually care about that relationship, the main character, or her brother...... Sure there's a lot of violence, a lot of angry comments and threats but there's not enough there to build a real connection to the character. I don't like a character that I could take or leave. I like a character that is strongly pulled one way or the other... Or fighting between the two directions but this character doesn't seem to do that... It just seems like she lacks depth.

Loved it. More beautiful imagery and complex characters. A perfect balance. I especially liked the last few chapters. I will read anything Kylie writes.

    Loved this one!

Although it does take place 10 years later you already know what she's been doing the whole time. Trying to get her brother back and she didn't just stand and stare at the wall she was doing what she could to become stronger and destroy the barrier sperating them.
Which I thought was very well expressed in the first chapters....and even the first book she will do anything for her brother.

Much like the first one we get to go on an adventure with Rin while she tries to stop her past from catch back up to her and take what she has paid for in blood.

This book makes me hope that Kylie does other stories in this world, because I would love more!! She absolutely knows how to suck me in with the violence.
