This was a really enjoyable book, it's filled with loads of really likeable characters, witchcraft, future technology and fantastic adventure. I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks and few achieve the perfect combination of a really great story and the best narration to match it. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Lastly, a special note on the narrator.
I must hand it to the narrator, rarely is any narrator able to create so many individual accents and personalities as well as Jesse Vilinsky has, it's a real achievement and I will definitely be checking out her other audiobooks.

The description of this book checks a lot of boxes for my favourite things in stories, but the writing was distractingly bad. I'm not usually a snob about writing styles (I've read some really poorly written things and enjoyed them), but every few paragraphs something would be described in a way that was so amateurish, it distracted me from the story. For example, in one of the first chapters, you're hearing the perspective of a character that is alone and using a VR pod. The description of her reaction to something that happens in the virtual world is that her "eyes sparkled." It's something that absolutely does not make sense to write when you're writing from the perspective of a character that cannot possibly be observing her own eyes sparkling in a virtual world. When writing is so bad that it doesn't even make logical sense, that's when I have to log off.

The action was great, i know that at times there has to be an explanation of things so that the reader can understand better but some parts of the book explanations was a bit long.

I really like the story, but I wish she was a lot shorter than being 19 hours long. I mostly put it on 1.8 to 2x speed for most the story.

A lot of the characters are pretty memorable and well thought out but I don’t know if I’m going on to the next book. Can’t say I disliked it but wish it was better done.
