A sweet lesbian romance!
Ellie Montgomery had a secret. Beyond being a mother, a best friend, and a baker of incredible desserts, there was something deeper in her soul that she had been forced to deny. Something she had never planned on revealing. Not even to those closest to her. Then SHE walked into Ellie's Diner and everything changed.
Dr. Hunter Vale was burnt out. A recent tragedy had her reexamining her life and career. A chance meeting at a local diner showed Hunter exactly what she was missing and she knew she would do everything she could to make her dreams a reality. The problem was, Hunter didn't know if her advances would be reciprocated. And, if they were, would her past destroy the possibility of a sweet future?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Intriguing characters, monumental love story, and a plot with more twists and turns than Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disney World. I almost abandoned the Audible Book version of the novel, however, because of the stunningly bad, loud, and screechy “New Zealand accent” of Blaise Knight, best friend of charming protagonist Ellie. A Kiwi accent is considered one of the most difficult for actors to master, blending London English and the traditional Australian accent, with hints of Scottish, Irish, and a hint of Cockney also with frequent substitutions of one front vowel for another (especially i, e, and a) and substituting u for vowels in many common words. The otherwise good narration is so jarringly interrupted by clanging utterances by Blaise, an otherwise witty and entertaining character. The novel, like many of Jourdyn Kelly’s works unflinching confronts the enduring harm caused by homophobia, pedophilia, bullying, even blackmailing of gay characters, often by their own families. But like the apple-pie cover, readers also get a big taste of the sweet triumph of the women who not only endure but find love.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Story was great. Narrator was awesome until that Kiwi accent. Thankfully that was a side character.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very good PG13 story and the narrator was good except she should stay away from trying to do a foreign accents. They were awful and distracting.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very different from the usual. Explores several different mature themes yet is easy to listen and funny. Would love to see more of J.Kelly’s books here on Scribd!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The narrator does a horrible job at accents which transformed what could have been an amazing book into one I struggled to make it through.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is one of the best book i I’ve ever read in this app
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Narration further detracted from an overly long novel. This narrator either needs to stay away from accented dialog, or seek further training. Since the narration may be affecting my opinion of the novel itself, I will refrain from critiquing the writing. Perhaps reading this book, rather than listening, would swing my judgement to the more positive. However, I suspect it would still be far from a great book.
