- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Many historical romances simply use the setting as a colorful backdrop for the relationship. This is more, an absorbing work of historical fiction with a (“clean,” slow-burn) romance as its framework. The characters are appealing and the narration excellent.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just riveting. A great story, well narrated. It really brought to life the horrors of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906 and the resilience of the people that survived.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was amazing! The description of the disaster happening around the main characters was haunting and vivid. The main characters were very likable (except the ones who weren’t supposed to be —Kate’s parents can choke hahaha) and had great chemistry! My only complaint is that there is not yet a Lucy spin off where she falls madly in love with someone too (as far as I know). It’s what we need and deserve in 2020. Please. Anyway, long story short: read this book and enjoy! You won’t regret it!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jae never ceases to amaze! This was an entirely different genre than the other Jae books I’ve listened to so far, but apparently she can do historical lesbian romance too. The romance was very sweet and more innocent than some of the other novels but deep and real. And it was nice to be swept away to a very different time and place than the usual modern day America. I thought the narrator was very talented too, with all the accents and different voices she does.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful !!!! Did a wonderful job with writing this book !!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Not only a beautiful love story.. also an incredibly amazing adventure!
I personally wish there would have been a tad more of the more intimate moments. I was starved for more of the bits of our couple realizing what two women can do together. Lol.. maybe I'm just a junkie!! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very good book. It's good to read about lesbians in the beginning of the 20th century and that are adults, not teenagers.
For people who read Jae's early works, there's a character related to and old and wonderful series of her.
The narration is very good too. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I wish two different narrators were asked to read this wonderful story ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow I loved this book, I was skeptical at first then the character development sucked me in, finally two characters that don’t blend with all the others from other books, I will remember Kate and Giuliana. The descriptions of the SF earthquake and consequent fire made me search for historic images and pushed me to find out more about not only that event but also the role of women as nurses and even photographers. I am glad this book made me learn something more about our history.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a very sweet story but the dialogue was very corny. The narrator’s delivery was too melodramatic.
