About this audiobook

Drow Princess for Hire.

Skills include wielding dual magics, stabbing bad guys with the pointy end, and protecting the good people of Seattle from dark wizards.

Also wraps a mean sashimi roll.

The name Brownstone evokes a certain reaction no matter who hears it. And for Alison Brownstone that’s both a blessing and a curse.

But it’s time for her to step out of her dad’s shadow and make a new name for herself.

She just has to decide what she wants that name to mean.

At twenty-five years old, it’s time Alison chose who she wants to be now that she’s grown up. She has many role models who’ve shaped her and trained her into the woman she is now.

But she is her father’s daughter…

Old face, new attitude.

Join Alison as she faces off against technomagic, cults, criminal organizations, and the growing discrimination against all things magical.

NOTE: While the series continues in the same world with some returning characters, it takes place years later and does stand alone. No prior experience necessary.

I was ok main character was a bit too narcissistic for my liking. Maybe she'll grown on me. I'll keep listening to the next book

It was predictable in its story line but I really liked how magic was brought to the current here and now. It was a perfect book to listen to while I cleaned the house and fed the animals.

This was the first in an epic series. Even if this wasn't a well written story with amazing characters, Kate Rudd could make any story interesting. She is probably the best narrator I have ever listened to and I have several thousand audio books under my belt.

As first books of the series go, it was a good introduction for the characters. I did however find a bit of it quite repetitive, like the author was totally making sure that you got that part of the story.
The characters were ok, and there is a lot of potential for future story lines.
I did really enjoy the authors notes and editors note at the end of the book. That was really funny, and I’m quite interested to see who won the wager???

Decent, but like the other review said, main character is quite unlikable: overconfident, too talkative, unprepared, and just generally lacking in social abilities. Fortunately, her enemies are just as careless. Then again, she is still a young'un and her character might develop.
Story is alright as well. All in all, a few unexpected turns and mostly good world-building convinced me to give four stars.
