Victorian Era England...
As far as rash decisions go, it was formidable. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will remains strong. If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation is by aiming a small pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the intense and foreboding Duke himself....
But she's made the first move against a very dangerous opponent....
For Sebastian Thornton is no stripling to be trifled with. The lady has played her hand. Now it's his turn. For Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry for his money - would be a great prize indeed. And he intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her... and demands his own satisfaction in return.

I am an avid reader of novels with a deep passion for writing. I especially love romance and adore writing about people falling in love. I live a lot in the worlds I create and I actively speak to my characters (out loud). I have a warrior way “never give up on my dream.” When I am not writing, I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese Anime and playing video games with my love. I also have a horrible weakness for Ice cream. :)

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book was trash. This was written solely for the sake of writing porn. The plot was awful absolutely disgustingly awful.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Much much too short. Didn’t give anyone enough to time develop and the relationship that was supposed to have developed ends up not believable. Good to read if you want to read the rest of the series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Delicious book! Enjoyable and highly entertaining! A great read with enough wit , sex, and humor.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Too short but excellent any way.
Ill read the other 3 but could not resiste the title - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Oh this story was short and sweet. It actually impressed me more than I expected. Gutsy heroine and a hard Duke. It doesn't get better than that and to have that story in just over 2 hours. Super cool
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was an absolute delight! Since I was looking for a short story to keep me entertained for a few hours, Stacy Reid’s novella was the perfect choice.
Lady Jocelyn visits the Duke of Clayton with the intention to negotiate a compensation for her ruined reputation. She is willing to see justice delivered by any means necessary: a duel, or a peaceful approach. The duke listens carefully to the woman’s story and proposes a marriage to atone for his brother’s actions. Surprised by his demeanor, lady Jocelyn prepares for her new life.
There is quite a lot going on. Sebastian Thornton’s past left him with no trust in love. He is not looking for feelings in his marriage with Lady Jocelyn. He just wants an heir. However, our heroine does hope for a good relationship with her husband and she is willing to construct it. I liked a lot how she took initiatives and opened doors for an easier communication with Sebastian and he was wise enough to accept his wife’s proposals.
That’s the best message from this story: communication is the key to a great marriage. Yes, a classic line, but beautifully presented in this historical romance novella.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This is my 11th book by this author and the first 2 star. It's short and kind of bland, but I might have still rounded up or something, but on top of that I didn't really 'buy' any of it. The heroine is a nutter, and the hero is dukely and pretty much nothing else. And, almost all of their choices are very questionable. I'm glad that at least it was short. This is a rocky start, but I'm going to continue with the series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I’d view this book as a novella. It had great potential and I enjoyed the plot but it was all way too rushed for me. I felt it could have been fleshed out more to give it depth. But a good quick read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This novella of a little over 100 pages is an enjoyable romance with likable characters with complex back stories. Jocelyn charges into Sebastian’s life with gun drawn. His attraction to her causes him to finally accept his duty as a Duke to marry and provide a heir. While Sebastian comes from a dysfunctional family that has scarred him for a healthy marriage, Jocelyn is trying to recreate the very close family relationship that she had when her mother lived. These contrasting personalities make the story heartfelt and believable. I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Alright, so as far as rash decisions went, this perhaps wasn't the wisest course of action. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will had to remain strong. After all, desperate times called for desperate measures. If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation was to aim a derringer pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the dark and foreboding Duke himself. But Jocelyn has made the first move against a very dangerous opponent...For Sebastian Thornton is no callow youth to be trifled with. And the lady has just played her hand. Now, it's his turn...Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with such spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry him for his money - would be a great prize indeed. He intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her...and demands his own satisfaction in return.First of all, I must say that I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I read this book. The title is intriguing, and actually is what first captured my attention. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story, though. For its length, I found the plot and characters to be very well-developed. I give this book a definite A! and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
