SWEET SNOWBALL

BEHIND THE QUILT

SNOW PRETTY

“For the design of this quilt, I started with a traditional Snowball and Nine-patch quilt. The combination of these two blocks gives a pretty secondary pattern with the look of old lace. In addition, I wanted to take the design one step further and add a central motif as well as some checkerboard strips to break up the density of the pattern. For this, I created a checkerboard Dresden Plate for the centre of the quilt and added a checkerboard strip border around it with some empty space to allow the design to breathe and float in the centre of the quilt. I added two final rounds of sashing – one background and one checkerboard strip to echo the borders in the centre of the quilt. Finally, turning the Snowball/ Nine-patch design on-point adds more interest to the patterns made by those blocks in combination.” – Lynne Goldsworthy
