Linking the blocks
This block includes a centre area that has appeared before in previous Blocks of the Month and also features a repeat of the corner rolled-back edges that were in the fourth block in the series. As each block is added, more little details reappear here and there, linking the individual designs into an overall collection that will become the final quilt.
Every design has a finished size of 12in x 12in and is then edged with an extra frame of background fabric in a finished width of 1½in. This acts as a final border to each block and extends the block size to 15in x 15in. The frame includes a cornerstone square that repeats the corner square of each block.
Choosing the fabrics
The centre Cathedral Window effect uses a curved square of background fabric surrounded by four (4) corners of a dark fabric (fabric A), making a strong contrast. Lynne used one (1) of the dark range from Janet Clare’s Collage Collection (Ink 16950 16). Lynne chose the slightly patterned background for this centre and the plainer background fabric for the outer squares of the design.
