Simply beautiful

I am a chef, food writer and author of Nikkei Cuisine and The Japanese Larder cookbooks. I was born in Brazil of Japanese descent, where I grew up eating Nikkei food, the cuisine of the Japanese diaspora in South America. I came to the UK to study 30 years ago, met my partner Dr Gerald Coakley, fell in love and never left. We live with our dog, Tofu, in Wilton Square, Islington.

For the past 12 years I have been hosting supper club events at our home for 32 guests, offering an eight-course tasting Nikkei and Japanese menu. I love the intimacy of these events and the opportunity to meet and get to know my diners personally.
