She would prefer being home with her cats, at the Casino playing Keno, or off flying her private plane. Instead Freddie O’Neil is called in to solve the murder of the star from Lake Tahoe’s hottest Lounge Act, Vince Marina. His exwife swears she didn’t do it, though it’s true things offstage weren’t so great between them. Based on the obvious evidence Marina’s exwife Connie looks like the sure thing as murder suspect number one, but no matter how guilty she looks she’s betting Freddie can help her prove her innocence. Together they attempt to find out who really lowered the final closing curtain on Vince Marina.

The chorus-girl’s father is being conned by his caretakers, and an investigation is called for. When it comes to crime--even in a gambling town like Reno--Freddie O'Neal is all business. She didn't know what to expect when she arrived in Elko to attend a gathering of cowboy poets. What Freddie found was actual cowboys--and cowgirls--reciting verse, drinking whiskey, and catching up with old buddies. The friendly get-together turns ugly though when one of the poets is found dead, and Freddie's boyfriend is accused as the murderer. Now she is learning facts about Sam's past she had no idea of before, and she's hoping she hasn't been keeping company with a killer.

- The Luck of Draw: A Freddie O'Neal Mystery

Her cats, the occasional game of keno, and the odd solo flight in her private plane would be enough for Freddie O’Neal if she could make a living that way. Instead she’s a private investigator hired to track down Darla Hayden. The missing woman left her therapist with a pile of unpaid bills, but the therapist is less concerned about money than murder. The patient’s affair with a playboy professor had gone sour, and her graduate studies came to a screeching halt. Now, the therapist worries, Darla may be nursing an unhealthy grudge. Those instincts prove deadly accurate when Hayden shows up at a cocktail party with a gun in-hand. When Darla is later found dead in the ex-lover’s office, Freddie is pulled into a maze of mind games with a killer...
