In this final episode of Season 1, John & Amy speak with Joleen Hughes. A native of Seattle, Joleen grew up in the 90’s music scene, not only participating as a fan, but promoting & booking shows at the height of the grunge explosion. Next, she joined Seattle’s "other industry,” technology, working with one of the first music streaming services. After 10 years, she left the tech world to pursue a career in law & eventually opened her own media law firm, Hughes Media Law. To top it all off, Joleen is a romance novelist & has her own podcast, The Lawyer Who Rocks. John, Amy & Joleen discuss her dynamic career history, the root of her drive, & how each facet of her career path is intertwined & strengthens life’s next steps. Amy & John begin the episode with Amy’s story of getting fired from her temp job. It involves pornography, its dramatic, but it's not what you think. Next, John tells us how he may have forced his own firing & what role a historic Seattle Mariners game may have played in his subsequent employment termination.
Staying on the career tip, Amy & John remind us that there is not ONE formula for career success, people with multiple careers are often happier & they revisit the “skill strength” tests from their high school years. We close with Amy’s view on masturbation, why it’s important & how the American “shame cloud” influences our sexual health.
