Description

Series 2, episode 5 of the Sustainability Champion’s Podcast ?
Introducing the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the United Arab Emirates’ pioneering global award for recognising excellence in sustainability around the world.
Established in 2008, this prize recognises nonprofit organisations (NPOs), small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and high schools for their impactful, innovative and inspiring sustainable solutions across the categories of Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools.
With 96 winners across the world, the Prize has helped positively impact over 370 million people since the first awards ceremony in 2009.
In this week’s episode, we are showcasing two of this year’s winners from the 2023 ceremony in Abu Dhabi. The first of these winners is LEDARS (Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society). LEDARS is an organisation based in Bangladesh that integrates water resource management models to solve water scarcity issues in disaster-prone areas where water becomes unusable due to salinity and flooding.
The second is Neurotech, winner of the Zayed Sustainability Prize in technology. Based in Jordan, this organisation has developed Al-based algorithms with a blockchain-based transaction system to bring reliable energy access to refugee camps and underdeveloped areas.
Both of these sustainability champions are making positive, real-world changes to the most vulnerable in society who are impacted most by the changing climate.
This week, we speak with Mohon Kumar Mondal from LEDARS and Abdel Rahman Al Khalaileh and Omar Asad from Neurotech, in collaboration with the Zayed Sustainability Prize.
