Description

There are some really specific ways that you can start hearing back from Casting Directors and land yourself some roles. Here are 5 ways you can make contact with the all important people who make the decisions on who gets the green light and who doesn’t. The more connections you can have with Casting Directors the better.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Don’t make it about yourself. When you are speaking to someone when networking the first thing you need to remember is that people know and like to talk about themselves.
Use social media to keep in contact with the industry and to showcase your talents in an easily accessible way. This will be a digital cv for Casting Directors to view. Interact with their content to be seen.
Build genuine relationships. Believe that there are plenty of opportunities so you can walk away if a connection isn’t working. Balance your approach and know when to withdraw. Don’t go ‘stalky-pants’ on social media, for instance.
Be original and authentic at all times. If they know that you are going to add value to their project and be hard working and reliable you will come to mind when they are looking. Act like a normal human being.
Don’t follow the crowd. The reality is there is no one way to break into the industry. Do not follow rules parroted by a social media mob.

BEST MOMENTS
‘You don’t have to date these Casting Directors, just build up a genuine connection with them if you can.’ – Pierce
‘It’s very, very rare that you should have email casting in relation to a job. It would always be done through an agent or through an application. The number one thing you should be concentrating on when you’re communicating with Casting Assistants or Casting Directors is building a relationship so that when you do submit yourself for a role they know who you are.’ – Pierce
‘Apart from anything else, on social media they can see your face. People connect with people, right? So if they see your face and they can connect with you just a little bit more, know what you look like, it makes it so much easier to start building a proper connection.’ – Georgie
‘It’s great to be educated about it and to know who you’re talking to and what they’ve done but let them tell you.’ – Georgie
‘If for example you don’t get a reply from a Casting Director, it’s gonna happen but there are so many Casting Directors out there and so many people you can connect with in the industry. If one person doesn’t get back to you it’s fine.’ – Pierce
‘There are 1001 conflicting opinions online, in person wherever you go, in every industry everywhere. There is always gonna be someone who thinks they can do it better or will tell you to do it a certain way. If you do it differently, they’ll think you’re wrong, but get comfortable with people not liking you.’ - Georgie
