Description
Your network is your net worth and the more you connect the more you collect. That may all be well and true but many people are still daunted and understandably cautious about networking’s social side, but it is the best way of keeping a steady flow of work over the long term. Georgie and Pierce tell you why and how you should be going about increasing your connections.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
There is a stigma around networking in the acting genre, however, many of the people established in the profession are very open to chatting and sharing their knowledge and experience with you.
A network of colleagues allows discussion about the difficulties and solutions prevalent within the business. Networking with not just actors but all professionals within the industry can lead to a healthy pool of talent for you to glean advice from.
Once you call out social awkwardness, usually the situation is diffused and if someone is dismissive of you, it’s probably someone you shouldn’t be having as a connection anyway.
BEST MOMENTS‘I think, unfortunately, a lot of actors have a view that networking is basically going in and grovelling to people that are in a higher position than them.’ – Georgie‘When you’re the one trying to build a connection do try and end it with a question. It does help that conversation.’ – Pierce‘Someone may have more credits and achievements. They may have done more in the industry, but it doesn’t make them any better or worse than you. We should all be united in this industry and creativity flows best when we have company,’ – Georgie
