Description
Welcome to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
This is ONLY the APPLICATION OF YONISO MANASIKARA OF THE IMPERMANENCE OF THE FIVE AGGREGATES from the Vesak Poya Dhamma Session, conducted via zoom on 26 May 2021.
**Please note - each contemplation is a gradual and sequential development of yoniso manasikara, therefore you may wish to do the meditations or contemplations in sequence.
For the full 3.5hr session (including contemplations) you can listen to episode 103 WHY YONISO MANASIKARA IS ESSENTIAL TO THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH (Vesak Poya FULL Dhamma Session)
In this segment from the Vesak Poya Dhamma Session, we examine Buddha's teachings on:
ayoniso manasikara - how we misapprehend (unwisely contemplate) the five aggregates, cling to them, identify with them resulting in wrong view and continuation in samsara
yoniso manasikara - how to wisely contemplate and direct the mind towards anicca or impermanence of the five aggregates
recognise the process as a "death trap", where everything in samsara is conditioned, therefore deathbound
meditation instruction - use our own examples seeing five aggregates as a whole (but this can be done for each of the five aggregates) to see both ayoniso manasikara (nicca as permanent, lasting, stable, reliable, not subject to change, and not arising and passing away, thus valuable and substantial) vs yoniso manasikara (anicca as impermanent, unlasting, unstable, unreliable, subject to change, see the arising and passing away, therefore not valuable, no substance). In the meditation, you ask "which is the truth?"
The main suttas supporting this contemplation:
— Dutiyanandikkhaya Sutta (SN 22.52)
— Samādhi-bhāvanā Sutta (SN 22.5)
