Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
Another session to accompany the fifth module in the Youth Dhamma Gradual Teachings series looking into Buddha's Gradual Instructions to Lay People on THE BLESSINGS OF RENUNCIATION (nekkhamma ānisaṃsaṃ).
In this additional session, we examine THE GREAT FRUIT AND BENEFIT OF OBSERVING THE UPOSATHA, to understand how the Buddha encourages lay people to renunciate, make merit, develop virtue and grow on the Buddha's Path.
In this session, we look into:
— What is the uposatha
— The different kinds of uposatha
— Understanding how the noble ones' uposatha is observed and the different reflections recommended by the Buddha to cleanse the defiled mind by exertion
— The eight factors to be observed on the uposatha
— The great fruit and benefit of observing the uposatha and why it is "extraordinarily brilliant and pervasive"
— A ninth factor that can be observed and developed
— The cause and reason why some nāgas observe the Uposatha
— What devas rejoice in and what they find unpleasant
— Further encouragement from the Buddha towards the uposatha
