Description

There will be no recovering from this brutal offseason for the San Francisco Giants. Their fans will have permanent scars from how things unfolded with Carlos Correa. And yet, the offseason marches on and soon enough it will be time for pitchers and catchers to report to Scottsdale. In that case, the SF Giants have a lot of work to do. Even when they thought they were signing Carlos Correa, the SF Giants needed to make several additions. One of the most intriguing options remaining on the market is reportedly someone the Giants are interested in: outfielder Michael Conforto.
Conforto is not Carlos Correa, but from 2017 to 2020 he was really good and one of the most underrated players in the game. He made a lot of sense for the Giants last offseason, but it turned out he sustained a shoulder injury in January and had season-ending surgery in April. Now Conforto is reportedly healthy and seeking a two-year deal with an opt out. That's right up the Giants' alley, but they could have a hard time convincing a left-handed hitter to come to San Francisco to rebuild value. Conforto, like Carlos Correa, is a Scott Boras client.
More details on the Correa situation have emerged, and they're heartbreaking for fans. Correa had his whole family in San Francisco for the press conference that was supposed to be at 11 AM on Tuesday. Three hours before the scheduled presser, Farhan Zaidi called Boras and said there was an issue with the physical and they needed more time. Boras and Zaidi agreed that they would have until 1 PM, at which time Correa would be released from his obligation to the Giants and re-enter the free-agent market if the Giants weren't prepared to execute the 13-year, $350 deal. As 1 PM came and passed, the Giants informed Boras that they were not ready to proceed. Boras then began talking to other teams again, and about 12 hours later, Correa agreed to a 12-year, $315M deal—pending a physical—with the New York Mets. The real losers in this situation are fans of the San Francisco Giants.
