Description
I know, we usually talk about periods, hormones and wombs around here, so you might be wondering..investing?! What's going on Dana.
Only 2% of all venture capital funding for start ups in 2021 went to female-founded start-ups...even less so in the women's health (femtech) and sextech space. That means less products and services made by women and minorities, for women and minorities are being brought to market.
Many women have the money to invest, but lack the knowledge or confidence to do so. So our solution here is to provide more women and minorities with education and resources to learn more about investing so they can use their dollars to create huge impact and change.
I'm joined by Carli Sapir, Founding Partner of Amboy Street Ventures, a fund that invests in Women's Health Technology and Sexual Health Technology start ups. She is also the Founder of the Female Founded Club (FFC), a global platform that introduces VC investors to high-quality female founded startups.
We talk about:
Breaking down jargon in the investing space..what the heck is "seed funding" and "venture capitalist" and "angel investor"?
Why is there so little funding in female founders?
Why are there so few female investors and female fund managers?
Carli's path from engineering to running an investment fund
Carli's own health struggles that led to her passion in femtech and sextech
What it's like to be one of the very few female fund managers in the nation
What's the benefit of investing in for-profit businesses as opposed to non-profits
What's the minimum you need to be an angel investor..do you have to be a millionaire?
What are the risks and rewards of being an angel investor?
A few cool start ups Carli's fund invested in
