Description

With any pregnancy, one of the most obvious and dramatic transformations is the physical one. As a first-time mom, I knew I’d be packing on the lbs throughout my pregnancy journey, but the weight gain and acceptance of this new body took time. I share in this episode what it was like to gain more than the recommended amount of weight for someone of my BMI during my pregnancy, the pressures to “bounce back” post-pregnancy, how my body changed, and also, how to (and not to) compliment someone who just gave birth. Society has always had a ridiculous standard on what women should look like post-birth. But a mother’s appearance after her baby isn’t what’s important, and we should not measure a mother by how quickly she can “bounce back.” Not now, not ever. With this episode, my hope is to encourage celebrating our bodies for what it has done, for what it IS doing, and for what it WILL do, not for what it once was.

Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you!
[00:43] – My Giggle and Drool of the Week
[03:05] – Disclaimer
[03:25] - How much weight should you gain from pregnancy?
[07:29] – A baby is only on average 5-10lbs. Where does all the other pregnancy weight come from?
[09:02] – Was there any pressure to “bounce back” to my pre-baby weight?
[12:37] – What are my post-pregnancy goals?
[13:39] – How my body has changed
[15:58] – How to (and not to) compliment someone who just gave birth
[17:33] - Appreciating our bodies for what it is doing and will do

After you’ve taken a listen, let me know in the comments of our IG post what your experience has been like with the physical changes your body has gone through. Or, if you plan to be a mom one day, what did you hear in this episode that might’ve surprised you?
As always, thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey with you all. I have so much more to learn and would love to continue connecting and learning from all of you out there.

I hope you enjoy!

A podcast for the modern day Asian American woman hosted by Melody Cheng, Helen Wu, and Janet Wang. We started this podcast as an outlet for topics we are interested in, and for sharing stories we have as 20-30 something yr. old Asian American women working, dating, and living in Los Angeles. It's no secret that Asian women are lacking in almost all media outlets. As three women working in finance, tech, and production who balance careers, life aspirations, and eventful social lives (we have our fair share of 5am returns from the club), we hope our perspectives can help, inform, and entertain those girls (and guys) with similar backgrounds or an interest in our backgrounds. We like to think of this as our invitation for you to join our once private girl talk sessions! So grab a glass of wine and let's get this show started ;)
