Description

Cherie is a lifelong athlete whose first serious competitive love was racing bicycles on the road and track; in the early 90s she earned her way on to a professional domestic team. Her post cycling life has primarily focused on running and she's raced distances from the 400m on the track to 50 miles on the trails, all the way to her recent completion of the historic 56-mile hilly road race, the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. These days Cherie is excited to explore the potential and the benefits of being an older athlete and what it means to improve as an athlete as the years go by. When Cherie isn't running or telling stories about other women running on Women's Running Stories, she's probably traveling or looking at animals. Ways to follow Hear Her SportsHear Her Sports website: HearHerSports.comHear Her Sports on Twitter: @hearhersportsHear Her Sports on Instagram: @hearhersportsWays to follow Women's Running StoriesWomen's Running Stories website: WomensRunningStories.comWomen's Running Stories on Twitter: @womenrunstoriesWomen's Running Stories on Instagram: @womensrunningstoriesMentioned in this episodeWomen’s Running Stories podcast about ComradesComrades MarathonStacy Sims on Hear Her SportsCoach Tony GentilecoreWestern States 100The Balanced Runner, (Feldenkrais Method) Founder, Jae Gruenke Tracksmith Boston HaresRxBarsCETS (Cherie & Elizabeth Talk Sports)

Titles in the series (100)

We share stories about running, told by women runners from around the world. Many episodes feature one woman’s story, focused around a topic that is central to her journey or central to her experiences as a woman runner. Some topics we’ve covered: aging and longevity, community building, RED-s, pregnancy, and the mental game, and we have an entire series about “experiences at South Africa’s 90-km/56-mile Comrades Marathon.” We also feature an entire series about 9 women’s journeys to the 2021 Boston Marathon: Roads to Boston 2021. This series traced the running stories of all these women, from the beginning, to earning their Boston entry, all the way to the finish line. We believe in the power of story to uplift, inspire, motivate, educate. Host/creator Cherie Turner, a competitive athlete since age 5, former professional bicycle racer, and a passionate runner for over two decades, also brings her own experience, challenges, and discoveries to the show, with the intent of inspiring others to pursue their own exceptional running journey, whatever form that takes.
