Description
The Cleveland Guardians are beating the San Diego Padres in the seventh inning as we begin broadcasting. It has been a very close contest so far with the Guardians holding onto a 2-1 lead. Andres Gimenez continues to dazzle both with his bat and glove. He has been the team's MVP this year. Oscar Gonzalez has also gone deep in this one for the Guardians who are winning in spite of two hits thanks to them both being home runs.
We get into the box score and talk about how the numbers tell us the Guardians should be losing, but they are not. The reason is the difference in strikeouts which is why the Guardians are able to extend innings and the Padres are not. We also get into some talk of BABIP luck and how it showed its head in the eighth inning. We also do a late preview of the series, trying to figure out how it is that these two very different teams are on equal ground.
We end with some thoughts back to the Jose Ramirez trade that nearly happened. I talk about some of the rumored names and look at the Juan Soto deal as it had a lot of similar framework pieces to what the rumored Jose Ramirez deal I believe would have looked like involving MacKenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell, and Jake Cronenworth. We talk about who might have been in the deal and who was not. We also discuss the game ending and the Guardian's lead growing in the American League Central as the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins both lost.
