Description

Here’s a quick message to let you know about this translation podcast I’ve been listening to lately. It’s called “Yo, traductora” and it was created by Alejandra Tolj, an audiovisual translator from Argentina.
“Yo, traductora” started out in October 2021 and her episodes have been short and sweet―or, should I say, short and acid sometimes.
She talks about the different aspects of being a freelance translator in a very entertaining way. I like how she uses some background music and sound effects to really put listeners right there, next to her, as she’s going through the perils and opportunities of working for yourself as a translator.
Besides being entertaining, it’s very informative and brutally honest. For example, in her own words, she shared a “violent rant” in her end-of-the-year special about how people are clueless about what we, translators, do for a living, including the whole meltdown surrounding the “Squid Game” controversy.
And, on top of all that, I’m really learning a lot of new expressions and slangs that are deliciously Argentine.
So, that’s today podcast recommendation: “Yo, traductora.” Check it out here: https://spoti.fi/3pEN3yz

Let's explore that side of our freelancing careers we don’t talk about too often or very openly: the struggles, the time invested into learning and improving ourselves, the ups and downs, dealing with clients, meeting deadlines, and also the little joys that make up for everything.
