Description

Dr. Rick Hanson shares steps you can take every day to improve your or your child's resilience and well-being.Be mindful. Fake it until you make it. Focus on the positive. We hear so many phrases and instructions on how to be resilient and have a positive outlook on life, but according to Dr. Rick Hanson, it all comes down to neuroscience. He explains how neurons that fire together, wire together, and he lays out practical steps you can take to definitively develop inner calm, self-worth, and emotional intelligence. By taking 5-10 minutes a day to sit with your positive and negative thoughts and turn them into feelings, you’ll build up strength over time that you can draw on in times of need. This practice works for both adults and children. Dr. Hanson encourages people to sit with their emotions after something positive happens to make sure they permanently store those feelings of accomplishment in the brain. When you have a negative experience, he recommends a three-step process.
Be. Sit with the experience and try to view it with compassion and mindfulness.
Let go. Release the tension from your body and disengage with any beliefs that aren’t good for you or for others.
Let in. Replace the negative feelings you’ve released with positive alternatives.
Listen as Dr. Hanson joins Dr. Taz to discuss how to become more resilient.
