Description

Long Island’s drinking water comes from a sole-source aquifer that is being impacted by greater use and emerging contaminants. Facing this challenge are the region’s water service providers, which are charged with providing millions of residents with clean drinking water. In this episode, Paul K. Boyce, PE, PG; CEO/President sits down with Suffolk County Water Authority CEO, Jeffrey W. Szabo. As the head of Long Island’s largest public municipal water supplier, Jeff discusses the many challenges faced in bringing quality water to Suffolk County’s 1.2 million recipients. Issues include emerging contaminants, geothermal system concerns, keeping up with demand, and saltwater intrusion. Jeff also examines the short and long-term opportunities potentially available to Suffolk County Water Authority consumers, under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The initiatives and proposals set forth will enhance Suffolk’s water supply while remaining affordable.
