Description

Remember that movie with Jennifer Lopez (Anaconda, Gigli, Enough) where the horse gets cross-sectioned? Yup, that is how I have had to describe this movie to anyone I've mentioned it to, otherwise they would have no idea what I was talking about.
It is hard to call the film a cult classic, given that it was a commercial success, and its name earned enough notoriety to be bastardized with an unnecessary and unrelated sequel.
The film was directed by Tarsem Singh, a notorious music video director... AND IT SHOWS! Having worked with bands like R.E.M. and En Vogue, he took his talents to the silver screen with this film, written by Mark Protosevich. Protosevich basically hated the film and disowned it because of all of the changes in his work. Which is odd for a guy who wrote a remake of the Poseidon Adventure and did the third attempt at an I am Legend adaptation by Richard Matheson.
Music by Howard Shore, you know that guy who wrote the backdrop to every movie you've ever seen? Yeah, that guy.
Jennifer Lopez plays Dr. Catherine Deane. When she is not smoking those addictive marijuanas in her underpants, she is diving into people's dreams? subconscious? We detail her humble origin as a back up dancer in the sketch comedy show In Living Color, though to her amazing Super Bowl performance this last year.
Vincent D'Onofrio (Daredevil, Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black) plays Carl Rudolph Stargher. I would really love to be a fly on the wall while this fella has coffee with Buffalo Bill. Anyone else? Just me?
Vince Vaughn, hot off the heels of his terrible Anthony Perkins impersonation in Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot Psycho remake, plays Special Agent Peter Novak. Just... no.
