Description

Today on the show we speak with Jenn Stowe of the Carpet & Rug Institute. Jenn spent her first year after college in Mexico working at an orphanage.  She eventually ended up as the VP of Government Relations at CRI and has been there over 10 years. She is fluent in Spanish, which was helpful, because we did the interview at a Spanish restaurant in Boston at the 2017 summer meeting of NCSL. She did all the ordering. She is fantastic person, which is obviously a view held by a lot of people because it seemed like everyone in Boston greeted her like a long lost friend. She also has a very unique wedding story to tell.    Show Notes: ● Jennifer Stowe’s wedding was on The Today Show. ● National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is the biggest conference that Jennifer attends. ● She is a member of State Government Affairs Council (SGAC). ● Jennifer is now a board member for the NCSL Foundation Board. ● Her summers are spent going to conferences and her winters are spent testifying. ● In 2017, there were three states that Jennifer was tracking—including New York State. ● Maine is the only state that has passed a framework EPR bill which gives the agency broad discretion regarding EPR programs. ● You can turn carpet into cushions, street signs, and artificial hay bales.   ● Jennifer majored in Spanish and Latin American studies at Penn State and then worked in an orphanage in Mexico. ● She worked for the Chemical Manufacturers Association for 10 years. ● Every contract lobbyist that she has hired has been through recommendations from her peers.   Help us grow! Leave us a rating and review - it's the best way to bring new listeners to the show.  Have a suggestion, or want to chat with Jim?
