The idea that the cosmetics industry is completely unregulated comes up a lot. When in reality, there’s a lot going on from the regulatory side to keep companies in check, and to keep consumers safe. Regulations can always improve, but it’s patently false to say they don’t exist. I think part of the reason these ideas are out there is because regulations are kind of confusing, especially depending on where you’re located. Industry information and cosmetic science is also not readily available to the everyday person - even for smaller brands who have products on the market, this can be a challenge. The lack of accessible knowledge sharing certainly, at least IMO, doesn’t serve our industry.
