In this podcast, I describe how to prevent kidney stones. One excellent remedy is to take phytic acid. It has the capacity to prevent the crystallization of two types of calcium, which causes kidney stones. I also recommend that you go on a low-carb diet, because high amounts of carbohydrates in your diet can increase kidney stone formation.
Eat a moderate amount of protein and a large number of vegetables, which will give you more phytic acid. Avoid spinach, chocolate, and peanuts because they’re high in what’s called oxalates that comprise one substance in kidney stones.
Take vitamin C, because it binds with calcium and prevents it from combining with oxalates to form kidney stones. It’s a myth that vitamin C causes kidney stones!
Increase your fluid intake, within reason. Drink more than you usually do but don’t overdo it. Add electrolytes. If you’re sedentary, drink more fluids because you’re more prone to kidney stones.
Drink lemon water, eat a healthy diet to ensure you get adequate vitamin B6 and increase your intake of calcium-rich foods like grass-fed dairy. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but when you take in more calcium through your digestive system, you’ll end up with less in your kidneys. The only calcium supplement I recommend is something called calcium orotate.
