Besides being an amazing place to live, Madison is home to some incredible people. In this episode, Neil and the other hosts highlight some of the amazing people that make Madison tick! Chris Sorensen performs karaoke for your listening pleasure during the “meetup of the week” segment, Chris Reese connects with a local about what it’s like living in Madison, and Neil Mathweg interviews featured guest Maurice Cheeks, an elected official serving in Madison. Are you playing the game of magnets? If not, you should be! In episode one, Neil introduced the game of magnets, an interactive addition to the I love Madison show. Listeners can look for I Love Madison magnets around the city, take a picture of them and post them to social media to register those magnets. Each week during the show, Neil will give out prizes to the owners of randomly selected magnets. Chris Sorenson hosts the “Meetup of the Week” segment If you have dreams of being a rock star or are just a huge fan of Karaoke, you have to check out Karaoke Fever. This meetup has over 570 people that are passionate about Karaoke, and on occasion, features a live band, so you can rock out like Bono right here in Madison. Chris Reese hosts the “My Move” segment with guest Nick Lensendorf Nick grew up in Wisconsin, then moved to Chicago. He and his family recently moved back to Wisconsin to settle in Madison. Nick said he loves living in a big city that has a small-town feel. His family initially connected to the community through sports like volleyball and basketball. Nick and his family are frequent visitors to the farmers market, as well as badger games and many of the outdoor concerts. His favorite part of living in Madison? The small town feel. Maurice Cheeks has a vision for the community of Madison Maurice Cheeks, or Mo, is an elected council member for the 10th District of the Common Council in Madison. He is also listed as one of the top 25 most influential people In Madison. Maurice is spearheading many projects around the city, with the overall goals of eliminating equity and opportunity gaps, Increasing citizen engagement in various ways, and fostering growth and welcoming diversification through strategic city planning. When Neil asked what advice he would give to those looking to make connections around the city, he said: “chase after what is interesting to you and you will meet people who share those interests.” Maurice says Madison is “a community that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work,” and he certainly leads the charge.
