Description

I’m very excited about today’s call. We have on the phone, Kourtney Mag-nes, who was recently crowned 2016 -17 Miss Texas for National Elite Pageants and she will go on to compete at the 2017 National Elite Pageant! Kourtney has 10 years of pageant experience and has also competed in the USA system and is a former 2013 Miss Houston USA where she went on to place in the top 15 at Miss Texas USA. She is joining us today to share her tips and advice on preparing for pageant interview! Kourtney welcome to the call! How early in advance do you start interview prep?  Where do you start? Do you find it beneficial to write down possible questions or make lists?  What is your strategy? What topics do you focus on when preparing for interview? Have you done mock interviews?  If so, do you feel they are beneficial? What have you found to be the best resources for preparing for the interview portion of the competition? How do you manage pre-interview jitters? Is there anything you do that helps calm your nerves before walking into interview? If shaking hands with a judge is optional, do you recommend extending your hand to them?  Do you practice hand shaking ahead of time? Some judges ask girls to have a seat and others don’t. Should girls just have a seat if they are unsure they are going to be asked? How is preparing for a one-on- one interview different for preparing for a panel style interview? What tips would you give a girl who is preparing for her first interview? How do you make yourself stand out to the judges?  How do you create connections with them?  If you are able to find out who your judges are ahead of time, do you research them and find out more about them?  Does it help you in connecting with them during interview? What do you do if you are stumped by a question? What if a judge asks, “do you have any questions for me?” – what would you recommend asking them? What do you recommend girls always have prepared ahead of time (a short commercial about her state, a joke, etc.)? Are there questions that you feel are givens and that every girl should be prepared to answer? If so, what are a couple of them? How can you bring up a topic or piece of information you feel is really important to relay to the judges, even if they don’t ask you about it? What do girls need to tell themselves right before walking into the interview? What type of wardrobe advice would you give for the interview portion? We can find you at ThePageantPlanet.com. How else can we find and follow you and your system on social media?
