Mary Mallia

Born to Maltese immigrants in Australia in the 1960's, Mary sailed back to Malta after her fourth birthday with her parents, leaving her grandparents behind. The abundant joy of both families reuniting in Malta many years later, was in stark contrast to the bad turn that Mary's mother mental health had taken over those years. Mary cared for her ill mother till she took her own life on the 20th December 1993. It had been a harrowing journey, yet one shrouded in unconditional love transcending time and space, giving Mary a deep insight into the human condition. This is depicted in Mary's publication Liberation at Last by Mary Mallia in December 2023, an epub commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of her mother's suicide. In 2017 whilst visiting family in Malta, back in the family home, Mary started writing poetry. The poetry written and published so far has stemmed from a lifetime of soul-searching, reflecting deep mystical experiences and a connection to the sacred and divine, spanning decades. Themes like the meaning of life, death, suffering, injustice, abuse, despair, healing, empowerment and enlightenment are explored in Mary's poetry books,  Playing Fields by Mary Mallia and in 'Bout Life 'N' S**t by Mary Mallia. Currently living in South Oxfordshire, Mary enjoys walks in the countryside and a living-room with a river view which has inspired a lot of her poetry. Writing is her passion and has been since her teens, seeing her through many of life's ups and downs. Mary also enjoys dancing, yoga, meditating, cooking, baking, entertaining and socialising. Part One

Heeding the Call - The Call of Love

This is the time to go within

in a deep silence free from din.

Through the door of your heart, its music comes

and of a sacred life, love and light it sweetly hums.

You’re invited to sit calmly and quietly still

allowing its sweet melody your whole being fill

as when the door opens - this sound like a sunbeam

will illuminate your world - your whole, entire being -

the heavy load lightens

darkness it frightens

fears melt away -

as you come through Love’s sacred doorway.

Chapter 1

The Call of Love

Heed the call of Love summoning from the infinite

space within.

Listen intently to its calling as its beating heart

sings therein,

of Love’s infinite Life, Light, peace and joy,

as they dance

to its pulsating rhythm, within and without

as in a trance.

Skipping ecstatically, celebrating Love’s lust for life,

letting go of all fear, anger and distressing strife;

allowing it to flow forth freely and trusting it will

flood your whole being, with its peace so tranquil.

Do not doubt for a minute that this is not so.

Trust fully in your own soul’s ability to glow -

in its inherent bliss and joy - bringing forth,

your sundered spirit from west, south, east and north

Bringing bits scattered across the Earth and outer space -

scraps that had been lost and fallen from grace.

These suddenly reappear to be made whole,

graciously uniting mind, body, heart, spirit, soul

into one complete being, as was always intended

this unity - on all parts returning, depended,

Love’s true path cleared, lushly resplendent

with exquisite jewels and a garment of silk,

a treasure trove whose golden light - its ilk

is to fill your whole being and that of the Earth,

vibrations, dimensions expanding giving birth

to …

a wholeness whose peace and Life forever abide

a wholeness whose peace and Love never subside

a wholeness whose joy wipes away all tears -

a wholeness whose Light casts out all fears.

And so, for today, take a moment to rest,

as I graciously invite you this theory to test,

listening intently to Love’s sweet song calling,

waiting in the shade underneath its cool awning.

It sings to you of your own divine nature

dancing its dance in a physical structure,

your heart will flutter, your body rejoice,

as Love’s calling whispers of unity,

equanimity

harmony

peace

bliss

joy.

Chapter 2

The First Step

Walking ahead with our heads held up high

our own true nature, we embrace not deny.

Our being’s alive, embraced and beheld -

our power is claimed - nothing’s withheld.

Our own true power to be loved, loving, and to love,

connecting to another with the purity of a dove

Our own true desire for a fusion that’s true,

comes from deep within me and deep within you.

Seeking outside what lies so latent within.

looking outside for what lies hidden, therein -

When we pause in stillness for a moment or two,

it gleefully comes rushing from within me and you.

It is being set free - from a stuffy space confined,

this power wants to fly freely, space re-define -

to soar to new places, new views and new sights,

to sample life’s simple, yet delicious delights.

Love’s spirit is finally set free to ascend

on being free from fear, this does depend,

realising the power that comes from Love,

that sacred divine power that lifts us above …

All the choas, all the confusing confusion,

back to Love, free from fear and delusion,

connected to the essence of our being divine,

home-ward bound to Love, where all is fine.

Home is not a confined, dark, angry cage,

stone-cold, fearful, overflowing with rage.

Home is filled with Life, Love, Light’s delight,

home is where the soul rests after its flight!

Chapter 3

Heeding the Call

Heeding the call of the dawn of being,

welcoming the day when by your inner seeing,

your heart opens gently, an opening to the side -

the door to where sacred Life, Love, Light abide.

The door is ajar, opening fully soon

overlooking a garden in a bright silver moon.

The key is ever so slowly turning,

Love’s desire to love – its yearning …

The heart’s desire to love and to be loved,

the aspects of Lover, Loved, Beloved,

from the beginning of time immortal -

journeys to the soul’s own loving portal.

And through the motions of life’s ups

and downs,

through ecstatic smiles and

delusional frowns,

above and beyond all our hopes and

freezing fears -

Love’s compassionate blanket dries

away all our tears.

There is no division, rejection or untrue words or deeds,

sacred Love, the soul of lover and beloved richly feeds.

Is this humanly possible ? some of us may ask,

All day and night in the warmth of Love bask?

Within each and every one of us mere human embodiment,

lives a force inside so powerful, pure, peaceful, potent -

not realised for what or who it truly is, or what it can do,

its underestimated truth and power too -

Lies dormant. Asleep, from deep slumber wants waking up.

Love’s peace and unending bliss fill our golden cup

to overflowing, throughout our being - everywhere -

Love’s rivers flow abundantly, with oceans to spare.

Chapter 4

Simply Sitting

When life’s troubles come to spin you right round,

let the wearied body rest in Spirit’s own sound.

The sound of the universe speaking to you -

just listen intently, not much more you can do.
