    CHAPTER 1

More than a month had gone by and Bev was relieved that everything was slowly falling in to place. Her mother had woven an intricate weave when she drew up her will. Her estate was kept apart from Mike, Bev's father. An ante-nuptial contract having been drawn up years back, took a while to unravel. Bev hadn’t realised how wealthy her mother was. With her passing, the list of things Bev had to do was colossal. Everything seemed to have a stipulation. The attorneys almost needed a step-by-step guide to unravel and finalise each segment of the winding down of the estate, which was immense.

It was early when Bev woke up and drove to the old age home to visit her father. He seemed happy and settled and the staff were friendly. Mike chatted with the grandchildren on the phone for a while. He was in fits of laughter as he listened to the stories they had to tell. Bev seemed in high spirits as she spoke with her children, James and Samantha. Mike stood up to walk Bev out of the lounge and collapsed. Bev stared as she looked at his lifeless body lying sprawled out on the floor. The nurses were on their knees trying to revive him. The doctor ran over and tried to do what he could and looked up at Bev who seemed bewildered. The tears streamed down her cheeks and she kept on shaking her head in disbelief. They sat her down and she watched as the paramedics arrived but had to announce him as deceased. Her father was wheeled out and taken away.

The children were distraught when Bev phoned them again. They couldn’t believe their grandfather had passed away.
