      I wrote this more than a year and a half after my sweet Mattie died. She was a senior girl who got cancer. During the last portion of her life she was very sick. We managed the best we could, but we both knew what was to come. It was very hard on a daily basis. Death is never easy. When it happens suddenly, you are in shock. When it happens slowly, you don’t know what to do or how to manage. Both can be paralyzing.

      For almost fifteen years, Mattie was with me and I felt so very loved being with her. She taught me the value of family and true partnership. I miss her loving presence in
