Faith In Action - Tonny Rutakirwa
Foreword
This book Faith in Action
presents information based on the works by numerous personalities including philosophers, researchers, Biblical references, and personal experience of the author.
The content covered manifests scholarly in-depth effort that presents the readership the opportunity to engage in self-reflection in order to make any appropriate choices. This could be in terms of conducting further research or embracing the aspects the individual may find acceptable; Tonny’s views bring out his personality as an individual on search of intellectual excellence. The views presented leave the reader the obligation to test out the principles of sharpening one’s faith. The style of writing applying humor on the scenes of his personal experience leave an inscribed portion of memory that makes learning natural and enjoyable.
Some of the practical aspects covered border on putting faith in action, overcoming fear, working on faith through acts of love; faith and developing a positive mindset; faith and the obligation of work; and the concept of reason and faith. My personal observation on faith as a Christian hinges on Biblical Authority which features clearly that through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear
Hebrews 11:3. This provides a framework of assigning accountability for our beliefs, actions, and entire being to God which includes putting to action our divinely- ordained gifts to serve mankind and God. Faith also prepares us to manage the risks and odds of life.
Faith in action
as a piece of work will equip the reader with the capability to critique, refine and reshape personal views and those of others which is an excellent way of inculcating the character traits of tolerating others’ opinions, no matter how much they differ from own philosophy. In the end both the author and reader evolve learning capabilities which influences the choices we make, the philosophy we adopt, and the mindset we embrace for an enhanced lifestyle.

Preface
Overcoming doubts in yourself
You cannot read this book and stay the same. Overcoming fear is the preliminary step you need to take before you embrace the level of growing into faith. There are different levels of faith, which put together combine to form a platform for Trust, the great inhibition destroyer that will pave your way to success.
A religious book; it isn’t. You will need to read this book before you are quite sure you are ready to walk into your next phase of thinking. A new level of reality and dynamism that make yesterday’s obstacles look so obscure, all things are possible.
Buddhism is quoted, as are principles from the Christian practice of faith. You will need both as you head into a transcendental realization of the connection between your cherished goals and reality as it presents itself today. Use what you have to get what you do not have. The stone in your hand, however small, can kill that Goliath. The connector is Faith, in yourself first, that you can do it.
Nature is fashioned to help only those who believe. You only do yourself a disservice by embracing non-faith, or fear as it is commonly known.
It is the greatest enemy of all time. Yet it will rule over you if you embrace it. You can conquer nations if you remove these inhibitions that prevented anyone in your clan from ever starting a successful enterprise that crossed the border.
Today you have a prescription in your hand. Tonny, an enthusiastic thinker, mental coach and entrepreneur in his own right, shares from the deepest recesses of his own being. Embrace, imbibe, partake. This work is powerful. You can never be the same again after partaking of it.
I recommend it highly for all aspirants of success in this life – sport, business, family, relationships, academics or religion. Resort to its methods recommended therein and you will be a great influencer of change, regardless of your sphere. Pick it up. Now.

Chapter One
What is Faith?
Sometimes life’s going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did.
— Steve Jobs
What is that which makes you go comfortably to bed every night? What is that which sees you board a vehicle from one place to another without fear? We don’t KNOW that we’ll be alive five minutes from now, we simply trust it... what we have is faith. Faith is what sees as move from one day to another, faith is what sees us begin new businesses; faith is what sees us trust people and fall in love with them.
You can define faith as that which makes men take a step despite all evidence pointing against that step. On the other-hand, faith could really make for absence of fear. Faith is that which saw men take a step even when everyone was certain they would fail. Faith is a force; faith is energy that puts dreams and goals in motion. Faith is feeling the fear, seeing the fear, hearing the fear, but choosing to do it anyway.
Faith is this ultimate belief of certainty, that despite the conditions, despite the current evidence, there’s another life, bigger, better and greater.
Merriam-Webster defines it as follows:
1faith noun \ˈfāth\
1: strong belief or trust in someone or something
2: belief in the existence of God: strong religious feelings or beliefs
3: a system of religious beliefs
The first definition; a strong belief or trust in someone or something
is what will form the rest of our chapters in this book. For something to be faith, it must have the qualities that show it to be a strong belief or trust. In other-words, anything less of strong doesn’t qualify as faith. For the theists, and bible believers, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Evidence of things not seen indeed, that’s faith at its core. When you get into a car from one destination to another, you are always very certain you will make it. Rarely does a person get into an automobile and conjure up thoughts of doubt as to whether he will reach his destination; the very act of sitting in the car is faith. Faith is a fuel of sorts, the strong belief that you are making it from one present point, to another point in the near future.
We could also say, faith is living a life of the future, as if it were already here. It’s this complete certainty you have in your inner sphere despite the fact that the outer sphere may not be in agreement.
You believe you are healed, despite the fact that the body still shows signs of illness, that’s faith. You believe in love even though you can’t point to it, that’s faith. You believe it will rain this year even if you haven’t seen any clouds form yet, that’s faith. You go to bed every night, very sure, you will awaken the next morning, that’s faith. All that we have in life is faith. Whether we agree or not, we all have faith.
The key point is that you don’t have proof of that future state you believe you are going to attain, but you simply believe, that’s faith. Faith is essentially belief without proof. You believe your parents to be your biological parents even though you have not necessarily taken a DNA test to prove this fact, that’s faith in them.
Let’s take it to a deeper level of consciousness? How can you prove that I exist? At least, the mere fact that you are reading my works isn’t proof enough, but for some reason of sorts, you believe in my existence. You simply have faith that I exist.
The Opposite of Faith
The times when you don’t have faith, you have something called doubt, uncertainty and disbelief. Any one of those moments you felt that something may not work out, in that state you had not faith, but doubt. Doubt itself, stems from fear, we could this put it rightly, and say that when you don’t have faith, you have fear. Whatever you doubt, you fear, and whatever you fear, you have no faith in it.
Just as faith is a fuel that puts you in action, fear and doubt puts you in a state of paralysis. Any moment you have fear, you become static, and any moment you have faith, you get into a state of motion. The only thing that’s ever going to stop you from attaining the results you desire in life is always going to be your fear, and by how much it supersedes your faith.
Samael Aun Weor, of The Pistis Sophia Unveiled reveals that; fear is the worst enemy of Pistis Sophia. Men kill each other because of fear. Nations arm themselves and go to war because of fear. We mistrust people because of fear. Espionage and perversity exist because of fear. There exists thieves and prostitutes because of the fear of life. The aspirants flee and part from the real Path because of fear. Frontiers, documents and restrictions of all types, which interrupt the journeys of people, are due to fear. Fear is the cause of thousands of personal and collective conflicts.
Just as faith effects all these positive results in the world and in our lives, fear effects the negative, it makes the negative to come to reality, at a rate faster than we could ever imagine.
Ian Ortega Aliro, a blogger at www.ortegaian.com came up with a very insightful graph of Faith vs Fear.
One can notice from the graph, that the best moments for one to succeed are those when his faith surpasses his fear levels. But more insightful, is the fact that as one’s fear increases, there comes a time, when all his faith begins to drop because of the increase in the fear. This graph though flawed gives some deeper insights into this comparison of ones fear and faith levels at a given period of time.
Think of the time when you did some great things, achieved your goals, hit the targets, what did you have most during this time? Fear or faith? Of course it must have been faith. And the more faith you gained, it created a snowball effect where, the more faith you had in the past, the more faith you created in the present.
Mary Manin thus said; You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith." Anyone who’s studied chemical reactions will tell you about the activation energy needed for any reaction to take place. The same applies for your dreams, a certain level of faith is the activation energy below which your dream will never be realized.
How to Overcome Fear
By Steve Pavlina (Famous Blogger)
Let’s talk about fear and specifically how to overcome fear and just to make sure we’re all on the same page when I say fear I’m not referring to the biological fight or flight response which is how you subconsciously react when you’re in real or perceived danger.
I’m talking about more of the low level feeling of anxiety or trepidation you get when you aren’t in mortal danger. The kind that curtails your actions. For example fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of success. Now without fear, without this type of fear we’re not going to end up with total recklessness.
Our goal is to overcome fear such that it doesn’t get in the way of our intelligence. Our goal is to reach the point of what you might call intelligent fearlessness where we’re guided by our ability to make intelligent choices. Not by our emotional fear which can cause us to react instead of to make our choices proactively and intelligently.
First you need to realize that fear itself is the actual problem, not the object of your fear. For example if you are experiencing fear of rejection getting rejected isn’t the actual problem. We don’t need to work on trying to get rejected less often in order to reduce our fear. Being afraid of rejection is the real problem. We don’t want to avoid rejection per se. We want to avoid having fear get in our way.
One of my favourite quotes about fear comes from the book Dune by Frank Herbert. And there’s a character in the book called Paul Atreides and he recites this thing called The litany against fear
and basically it goes like this "I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to
