    Introduction

    Becoming a mum is the happiest, hardest, worst, best, easiest and most stressful stress-free journey you will ever go on. No matter how long it took you to get you to the point of the arrival of your little person, and no matter how many speed-bumps you encountered to get there, it is a roller-coaster of emotions. With trying to conceive, fertility and infertility obstacles, miscarriage and waiting for them to arrive, there is always a tidal wave of emotions that are mixed with good and bad life changes to come to terms with. Everything as a mum is magnified. There is so much advice online and in books, it’s hard to know what to follow – one size doesn’t fit all, and it’s okay to pull from a range of parenting techniques or create your own. I truly believe that this culture of telling you how to parent needs to stop. I want this journal to give the user back the power to find and carve their own path.

    This journal was created to give you a safe space to get those feelings out of your mind and on to paper. The good, the bad and the ugly. There are a few handy tips, tricks, hacks and check lists within the book, along with some wonderful anecdotes from ‘Real Life Mums’. On the whole I have tried my best to make it simple to read so not to overwhelm you with information and lots of words, boxes or graphics that you might not have the time or brain space to read and digest.

    Its main aim is to create a safe space for both new and experienced mums who might be having their next little one, to cathartically release their thoughts with no judgement.

    My Birth Story

    Writing down your birth story can be an incredibly cathartic way of digesting and accepting what you went through – whether it was a good or difficult birth. More often than not, births do not go to plan and everyone’s birth is always different. It is an important part of recovery and a wonderful record to have written down.

    How to record your birth story:

    • How did you feel when the birth started and also during labour?

    • What were your main worries?

    • Did you have pain relief? Did it differ from your plan?

    • Did your birth go as you had hoped and planned?

    • How did you feel when you met baby for the first time?

    • Did you have to stay in hospital? What was that like, and how did it make you feel?

    • How did you feel when you left hospital?

    • How did you feel when you got home?

    • How did your birth partner feel and help you during and after labour?
