CHAPTER 1
PINTAIL RETIRES
This Mysterious and very Strange story begins in the early spring of 1950 in Middlesex County, Virginia, United States of America (U.S.A.). A middle aged full blooded Indian man named Mordecai (Pintail) Jacy (Pintail, his Tribal Name, See Foot Note 7) pulls his new Ford Panel Truck in to his garage and parks. As he does most of the time he takes a few minutes to look over and admire his old 1941 Packard 160 Sedan a gift from his late Father years ago. Pintail as he is called by most of his family, friends and neighbors is a well educated, very handsome, good natured person. He seems to know everyone and has never met a stranger. Pintail was born April 01, 1900 on the Pianka National Indian Reservation (PNIR) located on the banks of the pristine Piankatank River. His parents the late PNIR Chief Walter (TN, Blue Water) Jacy and his Mother the late Alyana (TN, Good Heart) Jacy lived all their lives on the PNIR in their old family log home where Pintail now lives alone. The home is well constructed and has been modernized over the years with all the latest convinces. The home is located on one hundred acres of beautiful woodlands and faces the Piankatank River (TN, River of Silent Waters). Wild life to this day is abundant and well preserved. The PNIR is a GOD given Paradise. The PNIR is located at the very end of Virginia State Route (Rt) 690, Coach Point Road. This road before it enters the PNIR has several very sharp curves as designed years ago. It is the only entrance to the PNIR as it enters and circumvents the entire PNIR and of course ties back in to itself as it leaves.
Pintail was raised by his family as a typical young Indian boy and taught most of the Tribal Traditions and Trades i.e., hunting, fishing and trapping just to name a few. Under strict conditions at an early age he was taught to read and study. In doing so Pintail developed a passion for reading mystery type novels, especially those involving detective and law investigation stories. After Graduating at the top of his class at the age of seventeen with honors from Middlesex County High School (MCHS) in Saluda, Virginia; Pintail applied for and was excepted in to the Virginia State Police (VASP) Youth Program. In this Program as expected Pintail excelled and at the age of twenty was selected to attend the VASP Academy in Richmond, Virginia. After completing two full years of studies in Law Enforcement and Investigation type work he graduated with an Applied Associated of Science Degree (AAS) as a Law Investigator. Pintail continued his studies for another year as a on the job trainee with the Virginia State Bureau of Investigation (VSBI). To make a long story short Pintail excelled at his job and through the years of Investigation work was instrumental in solving various types of serious crime cases to the point he became a VSBI Legend. If you cannot solve the Crime Case, Call Legendary VSBI Agent Mordecai Pintail Jacy.
As the years passed quickly by at the middle age of fifty Pintail decided to throw in the towel and just retire and relax. Having excelled in his chosen field he just said enough is enough and filed his official Retirement Forms. Based on his Virginia Civil Service Benefits and his U.S.A. and Virginia State PNIR Benefits his total Retirement income would be very substantial. However his VSBI Commander Dan Lawerence not wanting to lose Pintail and his investigating experience through friends in High places made Pintail a very lucrative offer to remain onboard as a Chief Investigator and as a part time Teaching Instructor at the VASP Academy in Richmond, Virginia. This special offer came with and excellent increase in salary plus the use of his own assigned unmarked Patrol car 24 / 7/ 365. Pintail gave this lucrative offer considerable thought and with reluctance decided to turn it down and just walk away. Hell with thirty years of service and putting his life on the line enough is enough. Hell with his established Benefits he can live high on the hog and stay in high cotton for the rest of his life. Like his Dad always told him Greed is the Root to all that’s Evil
and Always remember your sole purpose in life is to serve as a Warning to others
.
April 03, 1950. Monday morning early Pintail is sitting at his kitchen table sipping on a hot cup of tea planning his day. He still lives alone in his old family home. He has several ladies he sees from time to time that take care of his manly needs but still no one he has gotten serious with to the point he has considered marriage. Pintail is very outgoing and well liked. Close friends have ask him many times why he is still a bachelor? He just tells them he enjoys his freedom. So be it when the right Lady comes along he will know it.
April 03, 1950. Monday about 1100Hr Pintail is in his Boat House siding out two nice croakers he just caught off the end of his pier. After siding out the two fish he cleans his fishing gear and hangs his fishing rod back up in the rack on the bulkhead. As he does this he accidently knocks his Fathers old back pack down on the deck. He picks up the heavy old back pack and rehangs it back up. Son of a bitch (SOB) it’s heavy as hell and full of God only knows what and just like his Father left it years ago. Pintail says to himself; one of these days when I can get around to it I will clean it out and repack it but not now as I am in a hurry and I need to run to the store and pick up a few things. It’s now about 1300Hr as Pintail walks back to the house. He walks in through the garage and places the sided fish fillets in the refrigerator, washes his hands and gets in his new Ford Panel Truck to run to the grocery store. Pintails truck like everything else he owns he maintains in excellent condition, his land, house, pier and boat house you name it. Hell he even keeps a heavy oil proof tarp under his parked vehicles to protect his newly painted garage floor,
April 03, 1950. Monday afternoon about 1330Hr Pintail drives up through Saluda. Just outside of Saluda he crosses Rt 17 and turns left in to the Great Value Market parking lot and parks. As he does this his thoughts go back to July 1949 and the only unsolved case he and his local VSBI office was unable to solve. This case involves two local young eighteen year old MCHS girls (Alma Collins and Betty Thomas). They are lifelong friends and both were last seen together on July 04, 1949 getting in to an old car in this very parking lot. Rumors abound about their where abouts and as usual all lead to dead ends. Are they just two wild ass know it all runaways as many friends say they are? Have they, like so many others been swallowed up by the Dragon Run Swamps while searching for the Gray Stone Bear wearing a White Pearl Necklace around its neck? Who knows? Where can they be? Like I said all rumors over the years still lead to dead ends. To this day an "All Points Bulletin (APB) still remains active. Anyway Pintail just shrugs the thought off as it is no longer his problem or concern.
Pintail goes inside the Great Value Market to buy his essential house hold items, two cases of merlot wine and two cases of beer. As usual Jeanie Brooks one of his old girlfriends checks him out. She winks and says son are you twenty one years old? Pintail whispers Jeanie go get fucked! She laughs and says, Pintail my place or yours I get off at 1800Hr. Pintail leans over the counter pats her on the ass and gives her a kiss on the cheek pays up and leaves. As Pintail leaves Jeanie hollers Pintail call me sometime and gives him the finger.
CHAPTER 2
PINTAILS PASSION
April 04, 1955. As time continues to fly by Pintail has now been retired for five full years. His main passion now involves Kayaking. Fishing, crabbing and hunting are still active pass times but for some reason Kayaking and exploring the Dragon Run Swamps remains number one on his priority list to the point it consumes him. Living on the Old Piankatank River a tributary off the Chesapeake Bay he finally realizes it’s a gift from GOD, it’s a Paradise. The banks of the lush wooded Piankatank River are sparsely populated. No factories or manufacturing plants that pollute or contaminate the river in anyway. Just an occasional fish processing plant and pier to accommodate the local fisherman with their daily catches and their old deadrise Chesapeake Bay Work Boats. At the head waters of the Piankatank River the tide water ends which is about twelve statue miles (SM) upstream from the PNIR where the Gate Way to the Beautiful fully unexplored Dragon Run Swamps begin. Most of this Middle Peninsula area of Virginia is a natural, peaceful, wonder land unknown to most people. The Dragon Run Swamps are only accessible by small John Boats, Kayaks and Canoes. The Dragon Run Swamps run for miles and extends up through the marshlands of the Henrico County area well past Richmond, Virginia. Many old timers will tell you the Dragon Run Swamps never ends. Some History Books over the years will tell you the Dragon Run Swamps are the last fully unexplored wilderness on the Continent of North America.
Pintail has been to the Dragon Run Swamps trapping, hunting, exploring and fishing as a young boy many times with his Father and Uncle Tala (TN, Wolf) Jacy and other close family friends. Good times he will never forget. Most of the Dragon Run Swamps, Woodlands, Highlanders and Marshlands remain untouched. They all remain pristine as GOD made them Infinite years ago. Mysteries, Horrible Ghost stories along with Rumors and Folklore will warn you to never go out on the Dragon Run Swamps alone. Always enlist the services of an experienced Guide, a person with knowledge of the Dragon Run Swamps; again as a warning never, never go alone. Sad to say experienced Guides are far and few. The Dragon Run Swamps and woodlands with their heavy vegetation areas, quick sand pits and quick sand bogs contain the lost remains of many inexperienced people who thought they could conquer the Dragon Run Swamps alone without guidance. The draw of the Dragon Run Swamps with its mysteries of hidden rewards of gold, silver and jewels placed there years ago by Pirates and Outlaws are nothing but Folklore and Myths but the fools still come seeking these treasures.
The biggest mystery of the Dragon Run Swamps to this day and has now become a Legend of Facts is the Gray Stone Bear wearing the Bright White Pearl Necklace around its neck and the Secret of this White Pearl Necklace. Does the Gray Stone Bear even exists? Many will tell you the Gray Stone Bear can be found at the Summit of The Hill of Difficulty
. Many of the experienced Guides will tell you The Hill of Difficulty
like the Gray Stone Bear and the White Pearl Necklace are just pure Bull Shit (BS), Myths compounded by rumors over the years; that it’s impossible for a hill
