CHAPTER ONE
Why Marriage Is A Big Deal
According to Geetarsh Kaur, a relationship coach and founder of The Skill School which specialises in building stronger marriages, ‘Marriage is a beautiful institution, provided you find the right partner. The wrong partner can make marriage a disastrous word in the dictionary of life. Therefore, before looking at the necessity of the institution, it is important to choose the right partner. Once you’ve done that, marriage brings security, stability, hope, a shoulder to fall back on, a lifelong companion, and much more’.
Many have been asking if it is really important to get married. The answer is yes. Marriage can bring harmony, beauty and richness to your everyday life especially when you get it right. Now who would not want to enjoy these positive attributes in a loving marriage?
Some more reasons why marriage is a big deal:
1. Marriage makes you happier. The thought of having someone to share your life with through thick and thin truly fills you with joy.
Marriage boosts your life expectancy. The companionship marriage offers do away with loneliness that may lead to depression and in more severe cases, suicide. That is not to say that some married couples do not experience loneliness; being in a loving marriage decreases the feeling of loneliness.
Marriage improves your physical and mental well-being. It is also scientifically proven to make your heart healthy. A case study in America on Marital Status And Risk Of Cardiovascular Diseases conducted in December 2018 shows that unmarried people are at a 42% higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease and a 16% higher risk of developing coronary artery disease than married people. Perhaps it has to do with having someone to share your frustrations and be vulnerable with.
Marriage provides economic stability. Marriage and finance are inextricably connected. It is a connection that gives a couple peace knowing that in most cases, they have two incomes to take care of their needs and also more savings.
Marriage fosters a sense of responsibility in you not just toward your spouse and children but other family members and society. It makes you act more thoughtfully and lovingly knowing that some aspects of your life are not solely about
