Chapter one

For Gina, the next couple of months were a whirlwind. She felt stronger than ever before, especially with Dimitri by her side. She hadn’t come forward with their relationship yet, but she felt the urge to. However, she knew that society might not be so into that, which worried her.

She heard about the stories of women getting shit or dating a black man, and vice versa. She thought that it was strange, but then again, she was raised to believe that people were just people and nothing more.

But she didn’t want to hide this forever. One night, Gina looked at Dimitri, sighing.

I want to talk about something, just because it’s been on my mind, she said to him.

What’s up? he asked her.

She sighed, looking up at him with a blush on her face, slight frustration obvious to the eye.

It’s about us. About our future, she said.

What’s wrong with it? he asked her.

Well, I enjoy what we have, but I want something more. I want to tell others about you, how amazing you truly are, the whole nine yards. I just feel I can’t because of the fact that we’re different in race. I don’t know, it’s just been something that I’ve been worried about recently, she said.

Dimitri blushed. He had the same thoughts, but he didn’t want to tell her. He wanted to tell them about it, but at this point, he didn’t really know what to do about this either.

I want to as well, but aren’t you worried about what this could mean for your business? he asked.

Listen Dimitri, I could worry about that till the cows come home, but I know for a fact that if I don’t stay true to myself soon, I’m going to go mad, she said.

But what about the fact that this could ruin your business? People judge you based on this. Sad, but it is true, he told her.

I know they do, but I don’t want to have this hold me back, you know, she said to him.
