Invocation
Om!
Lord!
May we hear with our ears what auspicious be,
May we see with our eyes what auspicious be;
May we, offering praise to gods with our bodies,
Enjoy life, which gods pleased granted us truly;
May Indra of great fame well-disposed to us be,
May the all-knowing Sun God gracious to us be;
May Garud, misery remover, pleased with us be,
May Brihaspati ever grant us all the prosperity.
OM! PEACE! PEACE! PEACE!
Let peace be in environment and me!
Let peace be in forces acting on me!
Let there be Peace totally completely!
Om!
English rhyme
Chapter - I
In hidden realms, seer moves,
With eyes that see unseen grooves,
Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra's might,
In sacred syllables they prove.
OM resounds, cosmos approves,
The sacrifice that love behooves,
Light and taste, the earth it soothes,
The firmament above it looms.
Sandilya questioned Atharvan thus:
"Tell me of Yoga's eightfold path,
The means to reach the soul's abode,
Where Atman dwells, eternal and vast."
Atharvan replied with wisdom's grace:
"Eight limbs compose this sacred way,
Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama,
Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi."
Yama, forbearance, tenfold in its might,
Ahimsa, non-harming, the first light,
Satya, truth's beacon shining bright,
Asteya, non-coveting, in virtue's flight.
Brahmacharya, chastity's sacred vow,
Daya, kindness to all beings, here and now,
Arjava, equanimity, furrows on the brow,
Kshama, patience, as life's currents plough.
Dhriti, unwavering amidst gain or loss,
Mitahara, moderation, stomach's boss,
Saucha, cleansing both within and across,
Earth and water purify, mind's inner floss.
Adhyatma-Vidya, science of Self's domain,
The internal cleanse, where truth shall reign,
In hidden chambers, seer's vision unchains,
Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, their cosmic refrain.
In the sacred realm of Niyama's grace,
Tenfold observances weave their trace,
Tapas, the fire that body does embrace,
Through penances, Krichchhra, Chandrayana's space.
Santosha, contentment's gentle face,
Accepting life's gifts with tranquil embrace,
Astikya, faith in Vedas' cosmic grace,
Merits and demerits, their eternal chase.
Dana, giving with a heart's warm base,
To deserving souls, wealth's rightful place,
Ishvara pujana, devotion's sacred trace,
Worshiping Vishnu, Rudra, in pure grace.
Siddhanta-Sravana, Vedanta's embrace,
Inquiring into truths, wisdom's chase,
Hrih, the shame when virtue we misplace,
Guided by Vedic rules, society's grace.
Mati, faith in paths the Vedas trace,
Japa, mantra's whisper, soul's solace,
Spoken or silent, mind's sacred space,
A thousandfold reward or more we face.
Vrata, observance, Vedas' embrace,
Refraining from actions, their sacred base.
Asanas, postures, the body's dance,
Eightfold forms where energies enhance,
Svastika, poised, body's firm advance,
Feet between thighs, a tranquil stance.
Gomukha, cow-faced, in yogic trance,
Left foot under right, a cosmic romance,
Padma, Vira, Simha, Bhadra's chance,
Mukta, Mayura, their sacred expanse.
In hidden realms, seer moves,
With eyes that see unseen grooves,
Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra's might,
In sacred syllables they prove.
OM resounds, cosmos approves,
The sacrifice that love behooves,
Light and taste, the earth it soothes,
The firmament above it looms.
Padma, the lotus blooms serene,
Feet cradle thighs, a tranquil scene,
Right hand clasps right toe, left hand's sheen,
Praised by all, this posture keen.
Vira, warrior's stance, body's grace,
One foot rests high, opposite's embrace,
Thighs intertwine, energies interlace,
Yogic balance, strength's sacred space.
Simha, lion's roar, fierce and free,
Thigh pressed by heel, a yogic decree,
Hands on knees, fingers spread, you see,
Gaze on the nose tip, where truth shall be.
Siddha, adept's seat, perineum's hold,
Left heel presses, right foot's story told,
Mind between brows, wisdom's threshold,
Inner fire ignites, secrets unfold.
Bhadra, destroyer of ailments and strife,
Ankles bound firm, knees in sacred life,
Sivini's union, healing beyond strife,
Poisons dispelled, body's vibrant rife.
Mukta, liberation's touch, tender part,
Left heel meets right, energy's chart,
Balance within, where spirit imparts,
Sivini's dance, healing from the heart.
Mayura, peacock's flight, body's soar,
Palms on ground, elbows by navel's door,
Head and feet aloft, like never before,
Sins dissolve, as Mayura's wings explore.
Within hidden realms, the seer's quest,
Postures unfold, where energies invest,
Diseases crumble, poisons digest,
Choose one path, where ease and pleasure rest.
Conquer the postures, realms manifest,
Three worlds yield to mastery's bequest,
Yama and Niyama, virtues blessed,
Pranayama purifies, Nadis' quest.
Ninety-six digits, body's address,
Prana extends, life's vital caress,
Twelve beyond, fire's eternal press,
Yogin's journey, flames of consciousness.
Men hold fire's triangle, brilliance undress,
Four-footed creatures, quadrangular finesse,
Birds in circles, cosmic secrets confess,
In the center, flames of purity impress.
Above the anus, below passion's excess,
Life's fulcrum rests, where energies coalesce,
Body's sacred core, where truth does bless,
Nadis awaken, in this mystical address.
Within hidden realms, the seer's quest,
Nadis weave their cosmic tapestry,
Four-footed creatures, heart's sacred nest,
Birds find solace in body's symphony.
Nine digits above, an oval mystery,
Navel's center, where life's currents rest,
Chakra spins, twelve spokes of destiny,
Jiva wanders, deeds etched on life's crest.
Prana dances, like a spider's artistry,
Within the web of breath, it flies and jests,
Kundalini, coiled, eightfold energy,
Awakened by fire, wisdom's sacred guests.
Fourteen Nadis, pathways to infinity,
Ida, Pingala, Susumna's cosmic zest,
Sarasvati, Varuni, life's divinity,
Susumna's grace, salvation's quest.

Genital's threshold, life's sacred mime,
In this dance of forces, where realms entwine,
Susumna's grace, the Yogin's climb.
Above and below, Kundalini's flame,
Varuni weaves, life's cosmic game,
Yasasvini, moon's beauty, its claim,
To great toes, where secrets proclaim.
Pingala ascends, sun's fiery aim,
Right nostril's dance, energy's acclaim,

Through Nadis' channels, cosmic domains,
They move, they weave, where energy remains.

Anus, genitals, thighs, where power trains,
Stomach, seeds, lions, navel's fiery plains,
Life's alchemy, transformation's reins.
Udana soars, joints and limbs it claims,
Hands, legs, it weaves, where spirit attains,
Samana permeates, body's inner rains,
Digesting food, life's harmonious strains.
Naga, Kurma, Krikara, Devadatta's names,
Fire Vayus touch skin, bones, life's refrains,
Prana in the navel, Rasas it proclaims,
Water above fire, alchemical remains.
Apana fans flames, center's cosmic lanes,
Brightness grows, life's eternal gains,
Water heats, as Prana's currents wane,
In this dance of elements, wisdom sustains.
Within hidden realms, fire and water entwine,
Boiling food and conditions, alchemical design,
Prana separates essence, life's sacred sign,
Sweat, urine, blood, where energies align.
Samana carries juice through Nadis' vine,
Breath's dance, cosmic currents intertwine,
Vayus excrete, life's rhythms intertwine,
Nine openings release, where air combines.
Inspiration, expiration, cough's incline,
Apana excretes, cleansing body's shrine,
Vyana gives, takes, life's intricate twine,
Udana stands tall, body's posture divine.
Naga, Kurma, Krikara, Devadatta's line,
Eyelids flutter, hunger's call, life's design,
Dhananjaya whispers, phlegm's subtle sign,
Nadis purified, wisdom's path we climb.
In sacred groves, where Vedas resound,
A seeker arrives, virtues unbound,
Yama and Niyama, life's compass found,
Truth and virtue, their eternal ground.
Avoiding company, wisdom's profound,
Course of study complete, knowledge crowned,
Anger conquered, devotion's sweet
