CHAPTER ONE
Sarah went on a weekend trip that turned into almost a month. She didn’t want to stay any longer until Maria had trouble with her car. It had left them staying a little longer then it was planned. As Maria stopped at the long iron gates, she looked at Sarah being puzzled.
How do we get in?
Maria asked.
Maybe press this button on the wall,
Sarah pressed the button and the gates began to slowly open.
Maria smiled and drove of the long steep driveway while the gates closed slowly behind them.
Sarah saw how big and large it was as they came into view.
Wow! Maria, we are going to stay here!
she said excitedly.
After parking the car and getting out, they couldn’t help but notice how old and grey the Castle looked. The windows were in desperate need of cleaning, and the two red flags on the towers were blowing in the wind. Sarah became impressed with the flowers surrounding the entrance way. They walked up the concrete steps to the big grey door, Maria looked at Sarah.
Do you really want to stay here? It looks very haunted to me,
Maria said.
It will be fun,
Sarah smiled.
Okay,
she knocked on the door three times when the door opened.
A man stood before them, dressed in a black tuxedo with a white shirt. He had white gloves on his hands.
May I help you?
he said in a very deep voice.
We have two rooms booked for the weekend,
Sarah said.
Right this way,
he showed them in.
They looked around standing in the middle of a large entrance hall. The spiral staircase looked old and dusty. In the corner, stood an old grandfather clock with a gold pendant swaying.
Follow me,
he said taking the first step on the stairs. He stopped at a room in the middle of the corridor and opened the door. Then he looked at Maria.
This is your room,
he said. He walked down the end of the corridor and opened another door.
This is your room,
Sarah as she walked in.
She put her bags down on the bed and looked around the room. The walls were painted a pale blue shade. The curtains were drawn shut, casting the room in a dim light. She opened the wardrobe and saw a couple of cobwebs hanging in the corner. Sarah hesitated for a moment then closed the doors.
Sarah came out of her room when she bumped into a man. He looked tall with bright blue eyes, Sarah had ever seen. His hair was the purest blonde hair with a shine that look it was made of gold. She felt her heart race trying to catch her breath. Sarah had never seen anyone like him before, and she couldn’t help but feel drawn to him. Then she knew that her weekend was going to be full of surprises.
I’m sorry,
she smiled at him.
Hi, my name is Craig, Craig Bolton,
he held out his hand.
Sarah,
her hand slowly went towards his hand as he gave a little kiss and smiled at her. Sarah blushed a little and went a bit shy.
Are you staying here at Castle Creek?
he asked.
Yes, I’m staying here with a friend,
she said.
Welcome,
he smiled at her.
Sarah leaned against the rail watching him. He turned back around to look at her, when the rail gave way from the wall.
Sarah! Watch out!
he shouted out to her but it was too late.
She started to fall with a scream as Craig ran under the stairs. He stood there with his hands out ready to catch her. A few seconds later, he had caught her in his arms. Sarah’s heart began to flutter when she saw his eyes and smiled at him. For a moment, they had been in each other’s arms when Craig realized what had happened.
Are you alright?
he asked.
Sarah could only nod her head yes, when Craig looked at her beautiful emerald eyes. He felt his heart skip a beat. He leaned forward to her and kissed her gently on the lips. He felt overwhelmed with passion and tenderness as they embraced each other. Eventually, Craig pulled away and set her down.
I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have kissed you,
he said.
No don’t be it was nice,
Sarah said.
A loud bang was heard and Craig took Sarah’s hand and ran outside. They found themselves in a paddock surrounded by long green grass and yellow daffodils. He turned to Sarah and pulled her closer to him. Then he kissed her one more time.
Sarah’s heart raced against her chest it was like something out of fairytale. She couldn’t help but feel like she was falling in love with him.
The following morning, Maria and Sarah made their way to the kitchen for a coffee. They walked in only to find the same man from the day before. He greeted them with a smile.
Good morning ladies, I hope you slept well. Your coffees are ready in the next room,
he said.
They walked in the room finding a long brown table with white cups and plates. Maria smelt the wonderful smell of the coffee. She couldn’t help herself to sit down.
The coffee smells wonderful,
Maria said.
Did he seem a little weird to you?
Sarah asked.
It even tastes wonderful, try it you will like it,
Maria said.
Maria, did you hear what I said?
Sarah asked.
Yes, the coffee still tastes wonderful,
she said.
I have to tell you something?
Sarah said.
What?
she asked.
I found a man that I really like,
Sarah said.
We’ve only been here not even a day, and now you find a man just like that,
Maria said clicking her fingers.
Well, he found me first,
she said.
She caught sight of Craig entering the room. She gently touched Maria on the arm, and pointed out to him. Maria’s eyes saw him and then looked at Sarah.
Wow, he looks nice,
Maria said. He came over to them and kissed Sarah right in front of Maria.
Hi,
he said.
Hi,
Sarah said back when Maria nudged her.
Oh, this is my friend Maria,
she said.
Hi Maria,
he smiled.
Maria, this is Craig,
she said.
Have you tasted this coffee it’s wonderful,
she said.
My grandfather makes everything nice,
he said.
Your grandfather?
Sarah asked.
The man in the kitchen is your grandfather?
Maria asked.
Yes, everyone mistakes him as the butler, now he wears the name of it,
Craig said.
We better get going Sarah,
Maria said.
You only just got here, stay for awhile,
Craig said.
I don’t know, what do you think Sarah?
she asked.
I can show you around,
he said. Sarah looked at Maria and they both smiled.
Does that mean a yes?
Craig asked.
Yes,
they both said together.
Great, I have to go now,
he kissed Sarah again and then walked out.
He is gorgeous,
Maria said.
I know,
Sarah smiled.
Are you falling for him already?
Maria asked.
No, I only just met him,
she said.
Then why are you blushing?
Maria asked.
I’m not blushing just happy,
she smiled.
The clock struck 8pm on Saturday night when Craig’s grandfather rang a silver bell for dinner. He held two glasses of wine in his hand as Sarah and Maria came in. They took their glasses of wine and walked in. To their shock, the once empty room was now filled with elegant dressed guests.
I think we should go back and get dressed up,
Sarah said.
No, we are wearing dresses,
Maria said.
I’m glad you are here,
Craig said behind her.
You look nice,
she said. Maria went over to the people and started to talk to them.
Come, meet my grandfather,
he said.
Oh no, you go be with him. I’ve already met him,
Sarah said. He rang the silver bell again.
Dinner is served,
