About this ebook

After their parents were killed in an automobile accident when the twins were two, Sarah Fay and Shannon Ray are twins being raised by their grandmother on a small farm on the edge of a wooded area in the beautiful Ozarks area of Missouri. Sarah loves to eat and sleep so Shannon has his job cut out for him on weekends when he tries to get her out of bed early and down to the fishpond. Sarahs love of Grams delicious blueberry pancakes often helps Shannon get her to the pond Saturday mornings.

This sunny, Spring Saturday seemed a normal day as the twins made their usual bet about who caught the biggest fish so the loser would have to make the other twins bed all next week. The day turned out to be anything but normal.

When their German Shepard dog, Rex, joined them at the pond, they decide to play their usual hide from Rex game while he was splashing in the pond.

Rex quickly finds them and on the way back to the pond, Rex senses danger. Seeing his strange behavior and realizing there is an even stranger, creepy silence in the woods, they stand quietly on the path where Rex, with the hair on his back raised, stopped suddenly. A huge, hairy creature slowly stepped around a tree into the clearing not twenty-five feet from where Sarah and Shannon stand frozen with fear behind their trembling dog. The creature was so close they could smell him. His stench was so bad it almost made them cough. The creature roared, then stepped back where he stood near a tree watching them before he disappeared into the woods.

Rex, no longer sensing danger, led the twins safely to the pond. While jogging back to the house, Shannon informed Sarah he could hardly wait to tell his friends at school Monday about seeing a Bigfoot.

Monday brought great disappointment to Shannon when his friends wouldnt believe him.

Sarah, seeing how crushed Shannon was by his buds nonbelief, helped him come up with the plan to get solid proof of Bigfoot.

The plan had been perfected, put in place, and was proving successful when suddenly Bigfoot needs help. Could the twins come up with a rescue plan in time to prevent a Bigfoot from drowning in an abandoned well?

Thanks to Shannons strength and Saras bravery they are successful in helping Bigfoot save his child.

When the Bigfoot family is safely united and has gone back in the woods, Shannon realizes the family could be in serious danger if they present their proof.

Shannon has learned some things are far more important than having friends believe you. Knowing hunters might shoot them, he decides to keep quiet about Bigfoot and his family to protect them. After all the woods is their home.

Dedicated to my wonderful Grandies, Great-Grandies and to their parents who have so greatly enriched my life, and especially to the real Shannon Ray and Sarah Faye, who said, Grandma, write one for us.

I thank my husband Jerry for so generously sharing his family with me for fifty years and for our daughter. You have made my life so special.

I also dedicate this book to a great, one of a kind friend, Cissy Gast, who did the beautiful artwork for the cover. Thank you, my friend.

COME ON, SARAH," Shannon said, shaking Sarah’s big toe which had unfortunately been out from under her blanket.

Ouch! Sarah exclaimed, pulling her foot back under the cover away from her twin. Go ‘way, Shannon.

Come on sleepy head, Shannon urged, grabbing the offended big toe again. It’s almost daylight. Time’s a wastin’.

Changed my mind, Sarah mumbled, pulling her toe away from her determined twin again.

You promised, Sarah. You promised if I helped you clean the bathroom last night, you’d go fishing with me today.

I will, today, Shannon. Day, as in daylight, look out the window. When it’s dark, it’s night. This is night.

The sun is coming up, Sarah.

The sleepy girl opened one brown eye and groaned, Somebody lied to us. There’s no way we can be related.

Shannon grinned. He knew it was just a matter of time before Sarah would be out of bed, dressed, and back to her normal, energetic self. Come on my crabby, older sister. Pull your old bones out of bed and let’s get moving. Grams has breakfast almost ready.

Eleven minutes does not make me old, baby brother, just more mature. What’s for breakfast?

Blueberry pancakes, Shannon stated, taking a step back.

Sarah sat up, throwing off her blankets. Why didn’t you say so? Get out of here so I can get dressed.

And Grams says the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, Shannon chuckled as he closed her door, saying quietly, and I’m smart enough to know the way to the fishing hole is through my sister’s stomach.

Shannon followed the smell of frying bacon and blueberry pancakes to the cheerful country kitchen. Thanks, Grams, I’d never have gotten her out of bed without your help.

Belle Johnson, better known as Grams, smiled, Go ahead and sit down. You’d better get a head start before Sarah gets here.

That’s true. We’ll have catfish for supper, Grams. Shannon said, filling his plate with blueberry pancakes and bacon.

Sarah hurried into the room, Morning Grams, morning Shannon. Boy, that looks good, Grams. Sarah went to the cupboard where she got down two glasses and a cup. She poured two glasses of milk and a cup of coffee, setting them on the table before taking her chair. Hurry and sit down, Grams, or Shannon will have all the pancakes gone.

Grams put the rest of the bacon and six more pancakes on the plate before slipping into her chair. I see how Shannon will have all the food gone, she laughed as she looked at Sarah’s rapidly filling plate.

I can’t help it, Grams, Sarah replied seriously, You’re the best cook in the world.

Grams eyes filled with tears, Your dad used to tell me that. I thought he ate a lot when he was twelve, but you both have him beat.

You still miss him, don’t you, Grams? Shannon asked softly.

I miss all of them. Some days more than others. She looked at the twins, The older you get, the more you look like your dad and grandpa.

I wish we’d been old enough to know them, Sarah said.

If I hadn’t had you twins to take care of, right in the middle of your ‘terrible twos’, I don’t know what I’d have done.

Yeah, we were good for you, Grams, Shannon said.

You still are, you scamps. I’ll always be thankful you were with me instead of with your parents and grandpa in that car. Now hurry up or we’ll be having hamburgers for supper instead of catfish.

That wouldn’t be bad, Grams, I like your ‘gramburgers’ even more than Sarah likes blueberry pancakes, Shannon said.

I’m waiting on Shannon as usual, Sarah teased as she stood to take her plate and glass to the dishwasher.

You eat too fast, Shannon complained, chewing his last bite of pancake. You’ll have ulcers someday while I’ll still be enjoying good health.

I thought you were in such a hurry, Sarah said, glancing at her watch.

I’m finished, Shannon announced as he quickly wiped his mouth on his napkin. He got up, taking his plate and glass to the sink, drinking the last few swallows of milk on the way. He rinsed his dishes carefully before putting them in the dishwasher.

Always eleven minutes late since day one, Sarah teased.

    I’ve been up an hour.

And you’re still late. I’m glad we dug the worms last night.

Me too, Shannon agreed. I’ve tied Rex up. He’s pouting as usual.

Grams finished putting butter, sugar and
